Think Dex got spoiled a bit last year when driving some overpowering horses.  Feels like he has been handing out a lot of first over trips in big races.  Maryland isn’t tight enough, or maybe good enough to overwhelm this field.

The 3 yo colts are stacked.  Think EL, Super Chapter and Go Dog Go are the best but could see any of those three or Onajetplane, Maryland, Mr Walner Fashion, Meshugga, Monserate, Maximus Mearas, Mountcastle, etc picking up major pieces.

Isn't tight enough in my opinion,by design. Big picture is the Hambo

Absolute masterclass in integrity with Louprint at the Meadowlands.

Ron Burke, trainer of the top ranked contender, Louprint, has opted to qualify the North America Cup champion on Friday morning rather than race in the Saturday night Pace prep.

“Why not?" said Burke. "I don’t race horses to finish fourth. I don’t think it’s fair to the fans. I’m not going to go [1]:47 for $30,000, and if I’m not going to go for money, I’m going to do what I want to do. For me, not having a race is better.”

He could have entered him and took the horse back off the gate and kept hm covered up and let him pace home in the stretch as many other trainers would “to give him a tightener “

Fuck tighteners and fuck any driver who gives a horse a tightener in a parimutuel race.  Shouldn’t even call them tighteners.  Call it what it is. Cheating.  Stiffing a horse.  Why are there never any “lack of effort” fines when it’s clear as day to anyone with eyes.

You want a tightener.  Put them in a qualifier.

Tip of the cap to you Ron Burke.   Respect!!!🫡

What he really meant to say is I don’t want my future stallion Lou Print getting beat in an 30k race and hurting his potential value.

Miss me with this - the week before the NA Cup he dropped Sippinonsearoc in the b level Ohio Sire Stakes and went for $20k.  Why not put him in a qualifier - because he knew he could steal $10k, overwhelm the field and give the horse a tightener.  This field wasn’t going to give him the ability to do that

Burke and his owners have done more to damage harness racing than probably anyone else in the last 15 years

No he does not. A $1.6 million taxpayer subsidy will be transferred from the recently closed Freehold Raceway in Monmouth County to the Meadowlands Racetrack in East Rutherford, NJ. Gov. Phil Murphy recently signed a bill approving the move. $7.6 million is Gural's new total.......the original agreement:  All of the funds allocated to the thoroughbred industry will be allocated to Monmouth Park overnight purses. Of the funds allocated to the standardbred industry, 60 percent will be allocated to Meadowlands overnight purses, 16 percent to Freehold overnight purses, 12 percent to the New Jersey Sire Stakes purses, 6 percent to purse bonuses for New Jersey sired horses, and 6 percent for breeders awards purses.

please explain how freehold gets 16% of the harness subsidy when they shut down?

12% goes to NJSS purses--so that essentially goes to Gural's purse account

6% bonus for NJ sired horses--which is for harness racing

6% bonus for NJ sired horses--which is for harness racing also

Let me know if I understand this new tax correctly:
_________________ _________________ _________________ _________________ _________________ _____

Scenario one: During the year I show winning $100 & losing $200 dollars I would not owe any tax on my winnings:

Winnings: $100

Losses: $200

90% of losses: 0.9 × $200 = $180

Deduction limit: the lesser of your winnings ($100) or 90% of losses ($180)

Deduction allowed: $100

Taxable gambling income: $100 – $100 = $0

So even though the bill disallows 10% of your losses, in this scenario your full $100 of losses still covers your $100 win. You won’t owe any tax.
_________________ _________________ _________________ _________________ _________________ ______

Scenario two:

During the year I show winnings of $100 & loses of $108 I would owe taxes on $2.80.

Winnings   $100.00
Losses   $108.00
90% of Losses   $97.20
Deduction Allowed (lesser of Winnings or 90% of Losses)   $97.20
Taxable Gambling Income (Winnings – Deduction Allowed)   $2.80
No.

Presently you can only deduct losses up to your amount of winnings.

In your first example, you can't deduct $200 presently or $180 going forward.

Going forward, you can deduct losses up to 90% of your winnings.

So, in your first example

Win $100
Lose $200

Your allowable deduction is 90% of the $100 you won, or $90.

Winnings:    $100
Less: Allowable Deduction $90
 = Taxable Income $10

So, Ipso Fatso, you owe tax on $10.

Which is all kinds of fun since you'll owe tax on income you never received.

But alas, don't despair for gamblers.

Just like Mitch McConnell said of poor white folks losing Medicaid, "Well, they'll just have to get over with."

Well, when you take down $23,000,000 a year out of the sport, it makes a fuck ton of sense to buy yourself a little cheap goodwill for the next time a test comes up hot.
