Back in the 80s, my friend co-owned a horse called Escortention with trainer Ray Flis. Almost every week he would win the 25k claimer at the Meadowlands, but in between races, he’d be standing in a bucket of ice water. He never looked lame, but he was sore except for those 2 minutes in the race.
