New format for Lex sale
« on: October 05, 2023, 12:38:56 PM »
Has anyone noticed the lack of RNA or Bid in on the result pages ??  The possibilities of that happening is extremely small.
Another reason this should be called an offering and not an auction….

Most farms have trainers working with them to bid their yearlings up to a certain number. If it goes over then it gets a new owner if not then the trainer generally takes a piece with the farm and pieces out the rest to their other clients. This was a big reason why Pinske always had a ton of Kentuckiana yearlings. Some farms like Winbak simply put a made up name down as buyer then race them in one of their stable names in hopes people don’t notice.

Winbak sale prices are usually NOT high end at auctions.  Does Winbak make deals with their trainers for monthly bills on a percentage of purses won, OR, do they get billed the same or less the a regular owner would pay per month from that trainer?

Eli Scott of MD gets several from Winbak it says on the results pages. They have many names as owners which shields their buybacks from auctions.

Good question, especially since the earliest possible purse money is eight months away.

I haven’t had any dealings with them since Eddy Howard left.  But back then they trained 60 on the farm. Using mostly help that was here on Farm Worker Visas. Then they farmed the rest out for the winter to anyone that was training cheap. They had 1 guy in Georgia that bragged about getting 12 every year. He was training all in for $1000 a month

So Winbak makes deals with trainers that take their horses at a lower training rate but the trainers do get paid monthly from Winbak?

That has been my experience. Joe thinks anyone can put in the early work then sends them to better trainers to race.   The other thing Ed told me was if they had a bad month with the racehorses Joe would be grumpy but then he would go to NY for a week play on the stock exchange make 8-10 million and come back happy
