Atlantic City looks beyond casinos as competition from NYC threatens jobs---A report says more than 5,100 jobs could be at risk by 2035 as Atlantic City faces growing casino competition and pushes for economic diversification. “Atlantic City needs to diversify away from just the casino industry,” Brian Zoubek of Zoubek Properties said. Developers and local officials are looking to redevelopment and more year-round residents as part of that effort..........t his is why NJ needs a northern casino at the Meadowlands to combat the 3 casinos opening in NYC! Why drive 2 hours to AC when you could drive 10 minutes nearby for the same gambling experience? In 2027 they MUST get the referendum on the NJ ballot once and for all! Gural is correct!

Not sure if it's going to make it on the 2027 ballot. It's not an automatic/given from what I've heard. I don't know if anyone really knows the correct answer. Call Sen. Sarlo's office. I am sure they will know.

we have been reading "reports" over the last 12 years and Gural has been trying to get a casino in that same time period--and absolutely nothing has happened other than pumping up the hopes and dreams of an unrealistic scenario

fact is--is is highly unlikely it will even make it to the Nov 2027 ballot and we should know by August that it wont

The only factor which should determine if there should be a casino at the Meadowlands is the public.  If Gural would build it and it would be successful, it should be there.

There is a lot of concern at Foxwoods Casino too! They get lots of gamblers from NYC coming up via bus or car daily there. A casino manager told me they think Foxwoods will take a 35%-40% drop in revenue when those 3 NYC casinos open.

The crazy part is NY State wants to tax slots at a 76% rate while NJ taxes slots at 9.5%.  NY may price themselves out of the market

The only factor which should determine if there should be a casino at the Meadowlands is the public.  If Gural would build it and it would be successful, it should be there.

Kenny-you obviously forgot about the 2016 referendum where NJ voters overwhelmingly opposed a north jersey casino by a margin of 78% against and 22% for

since it wasn't even close-it hasn't been revisited in over 10 years and hasn't been on the ballot since then

when Connecticut opened Foxwoods-they said it would crush Atlantic City

when Delaware opened casinos in the 1990s they said it would crush Atlantic City

when Pennsylvania opened casinos in the 2000s they said it would crush Atlantic City

New York hasn't even opened casinos as of yet-but everyone thinks it will crush Atlantic City

you seem to be oblivious to all the studies which have said the same thing ad nauseum about AC revenue decline for more than 30 years now

For some odd reason Jersey folk just don't see the benefit of a casino at the Meadowlands. More jobs. More revenue. Etc. And while it might make the ballot again, I believe that it will be defeated again too! Not sure what the logic is of the voters. But hey, it's Jersey! LOL!

However, when the polling asked if NJ residents would approve a casino "at the Meadowlands"-----the results were a hell of a lot closer. It is a shock that some people actually believe a casino would turn a neighborhood into AC. Stupidity and short-sightedness. Incestuous cousins, LOL.

I agree with you GH. I wouldn't necessarily want a casino in my neighborhood either. But at the Meadowlands.....w hy not? Geez.....it's really a "no-brainer" for them.

The NIMBY thing isn't nearly as big an issue at the Meadowlands. That's why a much higher % of people are OK with it. I hope it happens. If it doesn't, it will eventually. We'll see a casino at the Meadowlands within 10 years IMO. No more than 15. I think it's inevitable.

one thing I did not mention is that M1 wouldn't be the only north jersey casino  as Monmouth would also get one as well- as both Gural and Drazin are coupled

those Monmouth and Ocean County home owners--including Colts Neck, Red Bank, Oceanport, Long Branch, Point Pleasant, etc also did not want a casino when those two deep red counties especially voted against it in the 2016 referendum

so it is a bit more complicated then just Atlantic City and M1 --Monmouth and the very wealthy homeowners in the immediate area are also involved and I am not sure if they would be so receptive

of course there is a major casino lobby paying Trenton to keep the current situation status quo

it seems like a no brainer but NJ famously is very corrupt and that is on display
