Sadly I feel that the Democrats are using the shutdown to try to win more elections next week. 2013... Ted Cruz led the effort in recruiting hard R House members to shut the government over the ACA.  Cruz filibustered for hours, literally reading Dr. Seuss Green Eggs And Ham for a long while.

Republicans lost that fight with Boehner saying, "We fought the good fight, we just didn't win."
 

He also called Ted Cruz "Lucifer." Cruz fundraised off that.

Soon after, Speaker Boehner ...gone.  Majority Leader Eric Cantor ... gone.  Replacement Speaker Paul Ryan ... gone.

The 2018 shutdown was different. Trump wanted $6 Bil to "Build the wall."  He got $1.7 Bil.  To his credit, Trump finally figured out he didn't even need Congress to get that $$$, just had to call it a national emergency, or some such.

It will be interesting to see what happens. The one thing we all know is that there is NO Republican plan to replace Obamacare. We know this because they have told us just that for the past 15 years.

2 Federal judges ordered Administration to use the funds put aside already for SNAP


BOSTON (AP) — Two federal judges ruled nearly simultaneously on Friday that President Donald Trump’s administration must continue to pay for SNAP, the nation’s biggest food aid program, using emergency reserve funds during the government shutdown.

The judges in Massachusetts and Rhode Island gave the administration leeway on whether to fund the program partially or in full for November. That also brings uncertainty about how things will unfold and will delay payments for many beneficiaries whose cards would normally be recharged early in the month.

Trump pardoned a crypto guy who had done a business deal with him that made his family tens of millions of dollars.and now says he doesn’t know who he is.  Either corrupt or senile.

“President Trump last month granted a pardon to Changpeng Zhao, the billionaire founder of a cryptocurrency exchange who had pleaded guilty to money-laundering violations in 2023, and whose company struck a business deal in May involving the Trump family’s crypto venture. But now the president has claimed he did not know who Mr. Zhao was.

“Mr. Trump distanced himself from Mr. Zhao in an interview with “60 Minutes” broadcast on Sunday, during which he was questioned about the decision to pardon Mr. Zhao, who pleaded guilty in 2023 after being accused of money-laundering violations that allowed criminals to move money on his cryptocurrency exchange, Binance.

“I don’t know who he is,” Mr. Trump said. “I know he got a four-month sentence or something like that. And I heard it was a Biden witch hunt.

In seeking his pardon, Mr. Zhao hired lawyers and lobbyists with ties to the Trump administration, while Binance struck a business deal involving World Liberty Financial, the Trump family’s crypto venture, that was expected to generate tens of millions of dollars a year for the Trump family.

Asked whether he worried about the “appearance of corruption,” Mr. Trump replied that he was not concerned, then bristled: “I’d rather not have you ask the question. But I let you ask it.”
