Bingo. Funny how none of the Congress has offered to defer their salary to help pay SNAP benefits. They all just want to blame the other side. And Trump that has no vote on the issue. Sadly I feel that the Democrats are using the shutdown to try to win more elections next week. Too bad people have such a short memory because every voter should vote against sitting members of congress next time they are up for reelection and that goes for both sides
No. Not bingo.
Nice sentiment and all that but 1) Congress is not going to defer their pay to fund SNAP and, 2) Every voter is not going to vote against all incumbents. Again, nice and all but, come on now.
As for lamenting that Dems are "using the shutdown," well, of course they are. Politics. Then again, the Republican demand to Dems is this:
You want poor people to get food? Well ok, just let us take away health care from tens of millions of Americans. Then poor people can have food. Do you remember the last time Republicans shut the government in order to end Obamacare?
2013... Ted Cruz led the effort in recruiting hard R House members to shut the government over the ACA. Cruz filibustered for hours, literally reading
Dr. Seuss Green Eggs And Ham for a long while.
Republicans lost that fight with Boehner saying,
"We fought the good fight, we just didn't win."
He also called Ted Cruz "Lucifer." Cruz fundraised off that.
Soon after, Speaker Boehner ...gone. Majority Leader Eric Cantor ... gone. Replacement Speaker Paul Ryan ... gone.
The 2018 shutdown was different. Trump wanted $6 Bil to "Build the wall." He got $1.7 Bil. To his credit, Trump finally figured out he didn't even need Congress to get that $$$, just had to call it a national emergency, or some such.
It will be interesting to see what happens. The one thing we all know is that there is NO Republican plan to replace Obamacare. We know this because they have told us just that for the past 15 years.
