From a post on Equine Advocacy Alliance - Facebook. I included some reality...On 1/27/23 Jeff Gural said to me during a meeting that stuck with me ever since "they're indoctrinated welfare recipients". Referring to the attitude of the the horsemen who he said would beat on the office door screaming for more money, yet never being concerned with where it comes from. Now, as for The Hambletonian vs. The Meadowlands Trot. There's a reason you cannot "replace" The Hambletonian....i t's THE HAMBLETONIAN. There's no replacing the history and what it means to win it. The value it adds to the colt who wins it. The dream that is realized for everyone connected to the horse that wins it. It's The Hambletonia, harness racing's crown jewel. Always has been, always will be. Now, we've all witnessed this battle between Jeff Gural and The Hambo Society. The sport's premier event used as a pawn. To diminish what it is and stands for an emarrassment by all involved. One thing that the industry should still cherish reduced to a weapon used by egotistical individuals. I understand both sides, but again it comes down to individual wants and demands, not what is best for the sport of Harness Racing. The Hambo was moved and Jeff Gural responded. Creates an out of thin air million dollar event with the filly equal of the Oaks to COMPETE WITH THE CROWN JEWEL??? Does anyone remember when The Hambo was moved to M1 from DuQuoin?? What was their response. Createdd out of thin air a competing trotting race called The World Trotting Derby. Who won that last year? Yeah, nobody. See my point? I've read some horsemen saying where did Jeff suddenly come up with this money, why isn't it being injected into the general purse account at M1??? On this I defend him, how much more do they want? It's HIS MONEY and his to with it as he pleases. He owes nobody anything he has chosen to fight back with his wallet after losing the Hambo. So does this save NJ harness racing? If you answer yes, show us how. Two races for the top tier that doesn't help the regular guy who races in NJ at the only harness track left that races two nights a week and offers TM 68s and MADC races to fill the cards. Created a race the general public will have no clue exists not wants. The Hambo card this year was down 1.3 million compared to last year. How do you think M1 Trot day will do? I defend Jeff in that I'm happy to see him fight the establishment that is still harness racing. Does he have the money to flush? Yep, he does and it's HIS. Just because he has it doesn't mean he has to spend it the way the horsemen want him to spend it. He's already saved the track from being overflow Met Life parking. But was this done with the interest of NJ racing or the sport's benefit as a whole? Nope. And that's ok, the man has already done more than enough for everyone else. This is for him, he deserves a little payback for everything he has put himself through since bailing the place out.
Hi Trainer Mike, post above is too long, nobody will read it. FYI
Where is all this money coming from? To have certain races, He mentions getting 17 sponsors to donate $25,000. That's $425,000. Is he going to make up the difference
Jeff doesn't even know who you are. Knock off the bullshit.
I read one sentence and said to myself,, I know Jeff pretty well he doesn't even know who this guy is.
