Todays standardbred is far superior to horses even 30 years ago.  Yes, they really do go that fast.  Much better genetics that turn over quickly.  Did you ever think you'd see trotters going under 1:50?  Two year old pacers under 1:50?  Jug heads and poor gaited horses are nearly a thing of the past...but thouroughbreds are still breaking down....

Times mean nothing today, nobdy time trials anymore. These things are monsters. There aren't any bad bred horses now. Training has changed, bikes have changed, track surface has changed, most drivers of top caliber horses are the top tier. But remember the check doesn't say world record.
