Now ....the top horses are skipping Iconic races

like the Little Brown Jug to cash in $$ in weak


Sire Stakes races....


Afraid to go 2 heats cause they might bruise their puppy...


in my opinion if a horse skips the Jug...it is weak..


but I guess $$ talk...


soon they will be skipping the Metro and The NA Cup


and go right into a 1 Heat Sire Stakes ...


where they go off 1-9 and beat B and C horses...

and pad the bankroll x 3

Kentucky has made it worse with duel eligibility. Over time all the top mares will be located in KY and the stallions in states with strong sire stakes programs. Then the babies will be able to race in two sire stakes programs. Who needs the grand circuit. The top horses can race in two sire stakes programs, set a mark at the Red Mile, then off to a breeding farm never to be seen again.

I agree that certain very lucrative sire stakes programs/races, dual eligibility, etc., can lure horses from major stakes-----and while the byproduct is not good, unfortunately, it all comes down to economics. Case by case or generic, owners are going to manage their capital at risk to maximize their ROI. No different than the connections of a top 3yo weighing the options of racing as a 4yo vs. a stallion deal.

But it is building a house of cards. Eventually the taxpayers in some of these states are going to revote against the government handouts when their own taxes keep going up. The industry cannot support itself.
