Have fond memories of standing on the tarmac listening to Larry call the races. Just a great announcer and all-around nice guy.

First year when Chester opened I went with my friend and it was the day after their original announcer Shane Bacon was fired, and Larry was filling in.

We ran into him after the card when we were leaving and chatted for a min, then he said "Listen we have to cut this short....I need to get out of here before the sun sets...have you seen it out there?? I would feel safer in Beirut!"   ngc3 ngc3

For some reason I don't recall Shane Bacon as the original announcer at Chester, I thought it was James Witherite.

I had the pleasure of meeting him at the Meadowlands. Larry could not have been more gracious & funny during our brief chat.

I'm 99% sure it was Bacon for most of the first season, then Larry filled in when he was fired, then the next season they hired Witherite.

I also remember the first year of racing there the casino was still under construction.

I believe you, it's just his name doesn't ring a bell with me. Btw, the casino has never done well and I can't believe they built the track in that neighborhood.

Harrah's Chester is not closed, they just changed their name to Harrah's Philly back in 2012 probably to get rid of the Chester part of their name.

Chester opened in Sep 2006 and I always thought James was the original but apparently he started in 2007 so it is possible Bacon called a few cards there in 2006

the announcer listed for 2006 is "others"

I miss James--he is doing well  with various other adventures and calling Rosecroft

he will probably take over Dover/Harrington if octogenarian Jack Gallagher ever retires

Larry was an excellent track announcer. Besides all the tracks we heard him call races, I would love his calls at Atlantic City Racetrack.
James W. Is an excellent announcer. Had the pleasure of meeting him and watch him call races at Chester years back.
