2024 horse earnings.
« on: October 23, 2024, 11:12:09 AM »
Surprised but maybe I shouldn’t be…

That only 1 horse, Karl has made a million this year. And by only $4,000

Perhaps my expectations of what stakes purses and Sires Stakes Final are as big or impactful as I thought.

Do you think that fact speaks to the quality of the various divisions?

I also think is because horses no longer dance every dance.

Absolutely a contributing factor.

Really, not that shocking at all
still have all the bc finals so that clearly will push some over depending who wins
more importantly if you dont win one of the major races you wont get close ( hambo, na cup , etc)
even winning sires stakes finals wont get you close
for most  of the 2 and 3 year olds making $100 k in a year is an accomplishment

Absolutely a contributing factor.

90's to 2005 it was not uncommon to see 3yr old with 25 starts.  I remember from 90-95 every yr a horse made 2 million and a slew made over a million.  I think 93 you had 6-7 horses make a million that I can remember off top of my head - presidential ball, riyahd, life sign, american winner, pine chip, staying together and ......

You also have the TVG/FanDuel finals after the Breeders Crown and the Kindergarten and Freshman Final Four for 2-year-olds, plus the Matron and Progress Pace at Dover next month so a few more horses might make it.

If i had a very good 3 yr old i would push them, especially after about mid August to the end of the year
i would not be saving them for their 4 yr old, grab the big cash when you can and either sell them after their 3 yr old year or hope they come back decent at 4
having said that i would baby a decent 2 yr old and even early in their 3 yr old year

I would agree with that.  Nice 2yo 10 starts is plenty and after August of 3yo yr you dance every dance.
