Warm up routine
« on: August 07, 2024, 12:55:20 PM »
I think this is one area that has changed a lot. For the few on here that have actually ever sat on one, what is your current warm up routine on race day? Jog a few miles, go a trip???

Big track 2 turns wrong way. Little track 3 turns wrong way. Have never been happy with this routine ... just seems to be the lesser of the evils.

2-3 yr olds you have to thaw out pretty good.  Jog 2 miles and then turn and go a trip and let them rock pretty good last 1/8th of a mile.  Older horses you can just jog a couple of miles as they know the routine.

3 laps wrong way as slow as you can go
lazy ones let them speed up down the backside the last lap then wrangle them in

Once heard a trainer yell at someone to bring a horse in from the field on race day so he wouldn't waste all the prerace running around.   ngc3

Most over do it warming up the same thing applies to some of these drivers in the post parade. They take the race out of them before it even starts. There’s very little common sense when it comes to the harness racing industry.

Go watch Ake warm one up and the score down before a race.  He will buzz a 27 quarter scoring down!

The difference between a Grand Circuit horse that races seldom for large purses and an overnight horse who has to grind it out year after year is significant.

Buzzing them hard in the score down releases mega red blood cells stored in their spleen producing more oxygen in the blood..

If Burke took a shit on the deck of the Queen Mary 99% of the horsemen would take a shit on the Queen Mary's deck. Most horsemen aren't capable of thinking on their own it's follow the leader in regards to training and warming up horses.
