Is the Meadowlands up for Sale?
« on: March 15, 2024, 05:06:01 PM »
Some one from the Larry The Bird Boy Camp said Meadowlands is going on the block as soon as May?  Is this true? Asking for a friend.

NASCAR did make and offer a few years ago. I think 2020, I was at Daytona
race and people were talking how cool a track rt outside of the city it would be.

Why would the state of NJ put it up for sale?  They get a nice cut of the handle and sports betting. Too my knowledge sports betting is not legal at a car race track in NJ

I could see a potential F1 race course at Meadowland Complex.  But I think the party I was speaking of meant the harness track may go on the block.

Didn't work out to good for Chicago when the speedway was built.Ill-noise was lucky to have a 2nd chance with the inception of the road course race.

The State of NJ owns the Meadowlands Complex. Gural has a long term lease on the Race Track. He can't sell what he doesn't own. Sure he could try to sell the lease, who'd buy it? They've tried to do F1 in NY and NJ, it never worked out. Putting in an F1 track in isn't as easy as one would think. How many F1 tracks are there, a lot more than the number of races Has anyone heard of Watkins Glenn, they quit F1 racing there years ago. NASCAR does race there but how many NASCAR track are closed. Though we could but a car track in like Dover. LOL

I haven't been to Dover since the late 90's. The car track was outside the harness track. They had a slot casino and simulcast in the basement.
The grandstand had a few hundred seats and it had paneled walls. The teller area was low and paneled and I remember only 3 or so tellers. Mostly farmer looking dudes were in the grandstand. The simulcasting basement area looked like a narrow laundry room with bare cinderblock walls and a million wires hanging from the ceiling. The paddock was pretty cool though, at the apron level it had windows where you could look down to a lower level and see the horses getting ready.

State gets zero cut of handle and actually spends about 20 mill. a year on subsidies.

means nothing--Gural gives away the signal to a few CAWs--makes virtually no profit from them

Every dollar wagered in NJ or on a NJ event the state gets there share from taxing it.
