Big bucks for nothing!
« on: March 06, 2024, 11:44:34 AM »
This unraced, now 3 year old, sold for $525,000 as a yearling, and was just purchased Monday for $230,000! So far, $755,000 has been spent on hopeful genetics. Buyers and breeders can look awfully foolish with how they throw their money around.  "She trained down 'smartly' last year at two with Chris Ryder, but unfortunely was immature." What a nonsensical statement to make. What does that even mean to train down "SMARTLY"? The horse cannot race and Ryder obviously has seen enough. IMMATURE=NO ABILITY! https://www.preferredequineonline.com/events/listing/1783/kelsie-awaiting

umm, okay
first did you notice who the owner of the filly was, i think mr jacobs is okay
secondly he paid $525 hoping she could race and if not have residual value as a broodmare, mission accomplished, sold her for $230k , loss of $295 k on just the buy/sell
thirdly the new owners( crawford farms ) paid $230 k, what do you think her first two foals will sell for , they might be out after those two , additionally her full sister walner payton might also throw a good one and  then this fillies foals go up even more
"hopeful genetics", the pedigree is what it is , there is no hope ,question is can she foal good horses even though she herself had no "racing" ability( breeding ability  is different)

Full brothers, full sisters blah, blah, blah.   Thats all breeders propaganda that they use to rid people of their money.  I know of a now 2 year old that cost more than this one that cant/wont trot a step.    In the fall someone that has time to wait for him to develop, will have a great opportunity to buy him.

fillies and colts get priced differently  for good reason , only one of them can deliver a foal

If you think there is wasted money buying young harness horses, this pales compared what goes on with the thoroughbreds. Just open up a t-bred program and see the some of the breeding costs in a $10,000 maiden claimer. I have seen time and again where a horse that cost $250,000 to $500,000 is in for a $10,000-$25,000 maiden claimer.

I read that Justify, the Triple Crown winner that raced a total of six times covered 410 mares this season. Stud fee is $200,000.

Right, and along with American Pharoah everyone wonders what was the reality of either being good to great horses without the Baffert recipe.  Although Justified a much better athlete all the way around.
Life is more like a bowel clogged full of cherry pits.
