Doc Moore has forgotten more about horses than most horsemen, especially the young punks. Don't believe me: just check out how well about five horses have done since leaving his barn last year---all going to the juice heads who thought they were going to crush. Joel and the Jets, oops straight to zero. Ask Mitch Cushing how he's liking Set Shot. The horse was managed perfectly: never set foot on a van with the exception of a 30 minute run over to Grand River where he didn't even have to race in the elimination. He just didn't improve and also suffered a physical set back and further to that the others smelt blood and raced him hard. That's usually doesn't end up well. I wouldn't be the least surprised if Doc gets him to win a few major ones before this season is over. Was he great Saturday, no but he did come a big big back half in against salty older foes.

And if Beau doesn't rebound and is actually toast, is DOC to blame for that?

What did he do wrong? Be specific please. Managed to a T last year, didn't leave home beat up on OSS horses that never even raced him. Took him to Florida and his schedule was mapped out just like every other top rated 3 yr old. His fault the horse got a lung infection? When Gullucci had the great filly suffer a similar fate every moron that has never even mucked a stall had the arrows at like he was his fault. It is what it is, he might be done and I'm not so sure that many will suffer the same fate as they torch these things like T-breds nowadays but don't manage them like T-breds.

What is the end goal here?

Raced about 24 minutes last year and less that 20 minutes total this year. Melillo has raced more and it peaking. Maybe he should have raced more.

Furthermore he didn't get the soft trips he received for the most part of last year. I just laugh at those criticizing a trainer/vet who has won as many of the top races and has done it for years. With all due respect, how do you know the horse was put away as sound and healthy as possible?   Do they do xrays and scans of all their legs.   Do they do imaging of lungs and other internals?   "He came back so so."   Maybe because they absolutely over used the horse at 2.  Leaving to the front or gunning him first up by the quarter pole, racing the shit out of him.   You are taking your chances, setting the pace every race as a 2 yr old, that you are leaving less and less in the tank at 3.   As for winning top races for years, anyone with the owners investing as much as his owners do, better win their share of top races.   And I'm willing to attribute it as much to poor management than I am poor driving.    What came first, a cooked horse or poor driving??

Half his races last year were walks in the park in OSS races where he barely broke a sweat even being on the front end. He only had a handful of stressful races last year. What happened is, he didn't improve as much from 2 to 3 as some other horses did and they've caught up to and overtaken him. Can he rebound, who knows.
