Fines From USTA for Improper Language

Imagine Horseplop.com joining the USTA and we having to abide by their rules regarding using “Improper Language”? We would all be broke within a week  73cv.2

I’m so old I remember taking my wife to the barn after the races as did many.  No more. Thats bad for the grooms as that was when they got nice tips.  But …… that was when grooms were grooms and not what we have now.

Parked…can you please expand your thoughts here? I haven’t been in a paddock in 15 years. What’s going on with the grooms and why won’t you and your wife go there after the races? We had great grooms. My wife and I always brought them food for their trips back to the farms. Hard working and pleasant young people.

I remember an old time successful trainer, I was literally a kid, but I was aware... His name was Ed Berry. Been in the same barn at RR prolly since the 50s. Totally different era guys. He lived in Westbury and every day around 12.30 his wife would drive to the track and bringing picnic basket lunches to all of the grooms, every one of which was a lanky, tall, usually Southern Black man, who Ed would call "the boys". It meant nothing in those days. Grooms pay was prolly 75 per head and lunch was part of the deal.

  • Calhoun: Thx I'm leaning to the 5 there.  Those CD/GP full field races look the best on the page. 1/2 length from being a G3 winner.
