Unfortunate. Saw on local media yesterday more peta-sympathetic folks protesting at Saratoga Race Course than ever. Used to be one or 2; now a whole gaggle. Times they are a changin.
Well. Perhaps people shouldn't put unfit horses on the track. PETA is, IMO, insane. However..we do not need to give them an excuse. You can't protest something that isn't an actual problem. Well..you can, but you probably (hopefully) won't get far. If anyone saw that horse warm up and thought he should go to the gate, you are blind, or a crook who does not belong in racing.
It doesn't matter if the horse was found to have a needle hanging from his neck when they got to him,the USTA would proclaim that he landed on it when he fell! Any investigation would be equivalent to the Vatican investigating the Pope! Time has proven that anything that happens in that outfit is dismissed by blaming an employee! What other industry will allow a member to decide when it's convenient to serve a suspension???
One can't help but wonder if that came from the same bottle that Bythemissle reacted to prior to the C.C. final in Canada, necessitating a scratch along with a delay in his seaon!
USTA has nothing to do with any suspensions or when they are served. That is all on the state racing commission Even if USTA suspended someone membership as soon as PA gives them a license the USTA has to acknowledge them. They are only a record keeping organization
