This is an ongoing debate. A lot of English purists and grade school teachers contend banned may be the correct term but there's a pretty ardent school of ploppers that believe banded is the proper verbage.

Since the English purists don't run the site, they usually don't hold the day in the debate.

Banned is something being taken away.

Banded is what a conservationist did to a wild animal they wanted to keep track of.
