Title: *SPA XXVIII, Saturday, 8/16/25 - Major US, CAN Stakes*
Post by: Trigger on August 16, 2025, 02:07:49 AM
Very nice racing weather forecasted for the SPA, a bit overcast, mediocre humidity, low to mid 80's temperature, FAST & FIRM surfaces expected.

A couple of big stakes at the SPA - the Skidmore and Alabama (GI).

At Woodbine, a big stakes day, the EP Taylor (GI), Kings Plate.

At Monmouth the Iselin stakes (GIII), Del Mar Oaks (GI).

That's the t-bred story  ngc3 Now the harness story.

A major Poconos Downs day starting at 230pm with 14 stakes ---Kawartha Downs has stakes --- Sciota  - Mohawk Sucker Track two opens, Brue's running there --- Red Shores, ATLANTIC LOTTERY GOLD CUP & SAUCER Final - may the best garbage pail win in PEI.

I'm looking at 22 races, budget is a G.  Good Luck!   ;D

I'll put this here.

I'm not there today (wish I was) but Deauville has a good card today.

I'm betting the 5th race .. 9:50am.

#2 Caulificar .. short price but looks solid.

my picks at Saratoga have been terrible...but here is a try with my goose shit....

race 10-Alabama Stakes--obvious exacta box Nitrogen/La Cara 4/6

Good Cheer is a solid bet against--typical early season 3yo filly who was far ahead of her opponents earlier in her career-and to me they have caught up and surpassed her..

good luck to everyone today tmbz1

Arcaugnes yes. Then Mandella after the BC. Arazi was Francis Boutin. I remember Arazi's BC Juvenile very well. He passed 12 horses in about 20 seconds. Biggest move I ever saw.

i recall the Arazi move-.

https://youtu.be/mYIQttbYOOs?si=LuDoNr8HfltMDL1r--the race starts around the 3:38 mark

it was the 2yo Breeders Cup Juvenile at Churchill

that move sucked me in to betting him in the Kentucky Derby--he was horrible

With my starting bankroll of $5000 for this summer now down to $4789, my bankroll will be $500 today.

I am focusing on a few races today. My big bet will be in the Alabama on #1 Margie's Intention. I expect Irad at a price and will be betting $50Win and $150Place in this small field.

Taking a shot with Horacio De Paz's Palace Boss (#1) in the 8th at that Spa, I'm not a big fan of jockey Luis R. Rivera, Jr. who I consider light years behind the top 20 at the Spa. But I think the inside post will be a big help, and the horse might get a nice trip at a price. Betting $20Win $40Place here.

One of the trainers i've actually made money with is Antonio Sano. I hit a big number early in this meet with a bomb trained by this sharp guy. Today he's got II Sciiliano with Lius Saez up in the 5th at the Spa. I expect Saez will get this horse close and make the one run in the lane. If he makes the lead early and gets soft fractions, he'll be tough.
$20Win $20Place on #5 in the 5th at the Spa.

That's $300 of my stake already "sent in". I'll fool around with the other $200 as we go.

Good luck to all you "plungers" today!!!!! Let's get 'em!!!!!

I handicapped Scioto today. A rarity for me. Many of the races look mismatched, another word for easy. Enjoy your night.

Focus today is on harness. Went 11-13 at meadows last night. But as usual I handicrapped the Spa so here goes the losers.

Race 1  horizontals   dd  24/16  p3  24/16/1   p5  24/16/2/146/4

Way to think positive ngc3 Very tough early sequence at the Spa.

Two big bets to build up my bankroll for Scioto tonight..I will also be playing one at Woodbine t- bred.. Will post soon. Pick 5 at Woodbine starts in race 2.

Spa Pick 5
ALL/ALL/ALL/5/5,6
$168 bucks... it cost an extra $84 bucks to throw Irad on the ticket in race 5, but I just couldn't leave him out on a long turf race. One thing is for certain. I will be alive going into leg 4.

Gulfstream Pick 5
2,5,9/4,5,7,8,10,12/1/4,5,7,8,9/3,4,8
$135 beans...There have been lots of close calls for a 4 figure hit at Gulfstream recently. I hit one for $400 last weekend. Due for a tasty hit there.Good Luck to everyone!!

Race 4 at the spa single on the 5.. he has had a start.. with Rosario. Finished a clear 2nd.. kinda got hung up on the rail, but closed well with some urging. I think a post in the middle will benefit him. He was asked at the beginning of the race some as well. Im expecting a typical Rosario type of steer.

As promised a Woodbine Tbred Pick 5.. I hardly ever play there but a $400,000 guarrenteed pool is enticing. The big boy jockeys didn't go there for shits and giggles so I tried to include them in all legs.
3,4,5,6,8/2,4,6,7,9/1,4,5,6/1,3,8,9/2
$80 bucks

All the best with your people Dougie, and horses.  ngc3

Thanks for the well wishes fellas. Still alive at Gulfstream, unfortunately it's a losing ticket even if it wins.. it's just a matter of how much. 4 races and all 4 favorites have won.
Its either a loss of $135, $91,$37,or $18

For some reason, when I bet a Sano horse at a price he'd first or second. As the chalk, they rarely win. He was to short today.

My preference in the long races on the turf is saving ground. He was very wide entire race, But it is Irad so he knows what he is doing. Looked like he was spinning his wheels most of the race. I was pissed for JTS sake until the end and for my sake because I liked #4 and laid off the race. Very happy with the outcome.

other than losing ground on all three turns, Irad used strong handling to get up-he even lost the bob and still won

give Kendrick a lot of credit--he basically put them to sleep as we have seen so many times in the past

4/5 in both the others is really great form 12-13/15.

No regrets is an all on the last leg.

We know the road to get there takes skill, so the master decides.

That be you!

See, no regrets at WOO, you shouldn't have any as long as you put your bets in correctly, otherwise, the outcome is irrelevant.

I had 5/6 in the lotto misses 1 number by 1 number.  $1500 return back in 1997, opposed to $15mil.  Winning felt great, 5 minutes later though  ngc3, you can't think like that.

Your best and that's it!   ;D

#4 Hillexotic...Two back at the meadows he put in a race I was in awe of. Flew around the oval. Last at the Big M no shot fron the 10 hole.

#3 Warawee Michelle...Are shoes on?  Burnt a ton of money race 1. Still horse to beat

Tough finding alcohol level higher than Grappa. Do my best handicapping under the influence of Grappa. Amazing the moonshiners are making a demand for Grappa. But moonshine and Grappa taste similar

I can't wait to come here for the breeders crown next year. Congrats on the early dd bello. No the pick4's and 5's I do not play here. Pools to small. I stick to tri's and supers... signing off for now but good luck everyone. Going a super in race 3..

So my doc gives me these pills and says to take them when I know I will be "bad" drinking or eating bad stuff. So I tried it tonight knowing  I would drink wine and my glucose was a very reasonable 119. Phew...I really pushed it. Trying to keep things in check after a very fluky and unusual run over 300
