People at the track might keep their losing tickets as a souvenir......... ................"To everyone who made Freehold Raceway so extraordinary, we wish you all the best in your future endeavors and hope our paths may cross again."

The first race handle should set the tone for the day . This is the most coverage we have seen out here for an East Track .

Whatever the handle, I guess this is a reminder to not take things for granted. Ends hit us all!

Watched the last race. Nice reminiscing by the announcer leading up to, during, and after the race.
Too bad they couldn’t handle that much every race day.
I wasn’t there today, but was there to see Red Bow Tie, my uncle’s horse, Sweet Michelle run 3rd in the Breeder’s Crown in the 90s, and his trotter, Make It Hot, win the Charles Smith Memorial in 2004.
Farewell.

Before the Civil War..sad.. gonna have to break out my old VHS tape from '94'
Breeder's Crown..Village Jiffy beat Riyadh. If I'm not mistaken, Bill Robinson's
son drove Riyadh. Shady Daisy won that day too.
-
Looks like 700 hundred today a very respectful number . Anyone taking pictures of the locks going on after the races .

Riyadh was a monster on a mile oval.

He was just a plain Monster. Won Battle Of Lake Erie from 7-hole on half.

Those were the days! I'll take my memories over most "progress" any day of the week.

The biggest reasons are people who went to the track were mainly older people, and alot of them have died off and no one replaced them. Also, too many other alternative forms of gambling you don't have to wait 20 or 25 minutes for between races. Unless you grew up with the horses, you have little interest in betting them, that's why you don't see many younger people at the track.

True we even took road trips up to Canada same thing average age was 40+ no young folks

That little athletic fella was one of my all time favs.....he had that monster attitude and lets not forget he was on a killer program.
-
Sad that very few historic tracks are left

I saw him via simulcast at the Meadowlands win a race in Canada in a blizzard by open lengths.

It’s always sad when tracks close. It’s the same story just a different place. The land is more valuable developed into something other than a racetrack, as in the instance of Roosevelt Raceway, Garden State, Brandywine, Liberty Bell, etc. Their strategy is to run these places into the ground so people just don’t go anymore. I was at Freehold 3x in Last few months and there were 18 people there.
As much as I would want to romanticize about RR, the last 4-5 years it had multiple floors and sections closed. It was and is depressing.

I used to regularly go to RR. I liked the top floor behind the glass section. I used to take the escalator from the ground floor to 2 and then the escalator from 2 to 3. I remember when they started closing sections of the track because one night I got off the escalator at 2 and then was greeted with a wall of plywood, they closed the top floor.

I realize it’s not the same building but can anyone Imagine how depressing it must be to live in those condos where track once stood.
I think few years back they were selling for $800-$900k
