Meadowlands race 7

Can someone explain the ruling please.
How is the 2 scratched for not getting a fair start when he got away better than the rail horse.
He was only a few steps behind the gate. Some races horses are an 1/8th of a mile off and they don’t get an inquiry.
Also, is the owner fucked out of purse money as well ??

I watched the replay of the start several times and the only possible reason is the horse had broken equipment.

He actually looked very lame to me. But he finished 2nd. They may not want to say that he should have been scratched lame before the start. That would make them look bad for letting him go. This decision is definitely a puzzler. And he got claimed. Is the claim voided?
Plus, how the about the people who hit the perfecta and trifecta with the 2 finishing 2nd, and then they say you didn't win. That's getting screwed

The replay lasted 10 minutes but no decision had been made yet, so I never heard the reason for the scratching, it almost had to be for broken equipment. As for the bettors who thought they had the exacta and trifecta, you're right, they got screwed. If the horse indeed had broken equipment before the start, I'm guessing the driver wasn't aware of it. Once a horse is programmed to race even if he's a late scratch, I believe the claim is still valid.

I've seen horses in a race with the head pole hanging. I've seen a horse 10 lengths behind at the start. No changes are made then. They should clearly explain why he was scratched. This makes no sense

I've seen equipment break during the race too like a headpole, but if it happens after the race starts it's too bad. The chart of the race just says "refund" for the horse. If Harness Eye was still around the chart probably would have had a comment. If the replay lasted for 10 minutes as it did, you would think they should have been able to make a decision by then so the announcer could tell you the reason. This is purely speculation, but if the horse had broken equipment maybe they were looking to see if it happened just before the start or just after it.

I think the person who claimed him has the option now to take the horse. The horse looked lame to me. Very curious if Bongiono took the horse.

The announcer said he was scratched because he didn’t get a fair start.

Claim will be voided. Horse has to start. Effectively he was scratched.

This should be investigated. It was a dirty call. The scratched horse got away better than the 1. The Ken lies and says how all of the outside horses were on the gate and they weren’t.

Ironically, the horse that ended up being placed second is named Full Disclosure which obviously was not exercised by the judges.
