Why would this be your profession ?
« on: November 12, 2025, 06:26:57 PM »
Being from Illinois, I wondered why recognizable names to me, why would these drivers be harness drivers :

UTRS Listings for 2025:
Dean Magee        $29,000
Kyle Husted         $26,000
Juan Franco         $15,500
Matt Avenatti       $  8,500       As of Nov. 12, 2025 this is approximately their salaries
for driving alone. This is really sad and they are risking
their well being each drive !

Go back to just reading post and stop being a Yo Yo.

If you think that's what they make then I got some good deals on a few 15 yr olds that fit non winners!

Way to go

My friend,
Husted is an owner, trainer, driver, and breeder. Any or all of these may generate earnings.
Just ask his owners that write him and Amy Thousands of Dollars in checks every month.
I am just an old horse trainer still going around in circles. Sometimes Fast. Sometimes Half-Fast.

Thank you Kirby, but you spelled ASS wrong. I see that you have over 3000 posts so you must have a great life. I'm going to start paying attention to your posts as I'm sure you are well respected on this forum. I was just calculating their income from drives and it's almost mid November. Maybe I should say ciphering like Jethro would talk in the Beverly Hillbillies so that you can understand. These drivers race at Hawthorne for a small number of days and the handle is horrible. Sorry, but I just don't understand how you can live on that money. Sure you can be a trainer- who a great many owners stiff, owner-where only a few have a profit, a breeder that has land that should be sold because the sport is dead and breathing only because of casinos, and a gambler that has no chance against the computer boys and with most mutuals under $5.00. Enjoy your life and thanks for your wisdom !!!

  • dougie: IIB, I think the mayor will sign the bill if it reaches his desk. The optics on this issue is bad for the horse carriage industry. Animal activists are adept to using the media to enlist horror and anger by the public.

  • Ignorance Is Bliss: It's now a bill with city council. Public hearings will be scheduled then the council votes on it. If passed it's sent to the Mayor to sign into law. He has already said he's in. Marte just took over, Bob Holden is the actual author of the bill who retired last year.

  • dougie: IIB, I have been reading some of the work Councilman Marte has been doing on this issue. I think he might be successful with passing the 'Ryders Law" Bill this time around. The image of the horse dead on the street has even been seen here everywhere. If the animal activists can get this on the ballot, who knows how the vote will go.
