Lets see how far they have to dig to find anything positive about todays showing. .. errrr sale…. Burke buying first day yearlings for $12, $20 and $25,000. One at $250 another @ $140.   A few of the big spenders still banging away. But looked quiet to me.

Tor Hagmann is a bloodstock agent. Does a lot of work for Kjell Andersen, who he bought this filly for.

I'll be there Saturday with some of my homies.

Wagner, Millman, Wisher, Braden. Horsey (needs some new whips). Taylor said he needs some partners so we're all going! Look us up

Morgan will be out in the parking lot doing pre sale injections and nerve blocking on those lame last minute consignments.

I don't think they can dig that deep, LOL.

They can fluff up the #'s and portray them positively, but I don't think the results were good. The best of the best sold the best. Always does. That's the highest end of the market and they will distort the rest of the market and the rest of the #'s. Below that, and most of all, the pig in the python is just not there. There is no more mid-level market.

Just checked.....today's total had 170 go through the ring, for an average of $95,841.

Last year, opening day had 150 go through the ring, for an average of $110,387.

Stop the complaining already! Every year these breeders think the prices can keep going up astronomically for yearlings that are overpriced to begin with. 50% don't even make it to the races and once the huge priced ones bomb you never hear any apologies to the buyers because it is all luck for the most part on which ones turn out OK. They should be happy they did over $16 million again.

why pay $300k or more  for one when you can get almost the same pedigree and conformation for $75k
you have a better chance buying 2 or 3  for $75 k than one show stopper
you can look at the pedigree and the horse but you cant measure their willingness to race and win

ROI on yearling purchases is abysmal. Sooner or later they will pull the plug on this fiasco.

  • dougie: IIB, I think the mayor will sign the bill if it reaches his desk. The optics on this issue is bad for the horse carriage industry. Animal activists are adept to using the media to enlist horror and anger by the public.

  • Ignorance Is Bliss: It's now a bill with city council. Public hearings will be scheduled then the council votes on it. If passed it's sent to the Mayor to sign into law. He has already said he's in. Marte just took over, Bob Holden is the actual author of the bill who retired last year.

  • dougie: IIB, I have been reading some of the work Councilman Marte has been doing on this issue. I think he might be successful with passing the 'Ryders Law" Bill this time around. The image of the horse dead on the street has even been seen here everywhere. If the animal activists can get this on the ballot, who knows how the vote will go.
