George “Buddy” Reed
was hoping for a serious answer to the question of today’s announcer at Fryeburg. Thank you for wasting our time.

Most of the races were called by Mike Cushing. A couple were called by the former freehold announcer. I think he did some meadowlands paddock interviews too.

I love the Fryeburg Fair. Crowded with some good food and vendors, I love the racing too! A very old grandstand jammed with people looking for a "price " horse. LOL! I'd be fibbing if I didn't say racing here in Maine is in tough shape. The Fair is the "highlight" of Maine racing. LOL! They have been talking about a small new track coming to southern Maine. But we all know, it ain't happening. Just not enough interest.

A proverbial chicken-or-egg issue.

The poor amenities that currently exist don't boost interest, but would interest increase with an improved facility? Plainridge attendance during one of their rare weekend cards suggests it would.

Interest would also probably increase with a more bettor-friendly wagering menu, more opportunities for relatively affordable ownership, and other baseline efforts to engage attendees.

I agree with Jack. Thing is we need some deep pocketed investors who are willing to take a "gamble" to build and promote a small new track.

Based on paddock chatter over the last couple years the investor intent is there, but the conditions aren't great for new construction or renovation.

Higher interest rates, steeper construction costs, and lawmakers' reluctance to legalize historic horse gaming have all been cited as obstacles.

Word on the street is that municipal approval for OTB wagering at the Portland sports book that's tied to the Cumberland track is making progress, so it sounds like there may be some movement in a positive direction.

no new track will be coming.  2020 the cumberland group said we will build a new track only 1 year at cumberland. now its 5 years later and its if we get this or that we will build you a new track. everything else is pure crap.
if i get a casino i will build the new track.
fryeburg crowd was actually down and handle was down this year despite perfect weather. never in all my years was the weather this perfect in october.
otb at oddfellahs will any $ go to racing? whats currently going to racing from the sports action?
with bo and others named in this thread is there any wonder why no one cares about us any more?
