Sarnia..Imperial Oil and other plants (border city with Flint to the west, Detroit southwest, each about 40-45 mins away across Bluewater Bridge)

Add in (to name a few) Rideau Carleton Ottawa backstretch previously reported news, to Kawartha, Georgian, Sarnia-Hiawatha and what is Western Fair's story these days (hope its ok) and the squeeze is clearly on Ontario harness racing.

The others: Mohawk, Flamboro, Grand River, Hanover, Clinton, Dresden, Leamington..what's ahead?

The more that the little tracks fall, the more likely it is that Mohawk will fall eventually. We all know there are less horses bred each year, dwindling attendance & bettors. However, eliminating tracks will lead to the demise of harness racing as a whole in Ontario, my hypothesis would be 10 years or less. There is no way Georgian will be open much longer, Rideau closed the backstretch, they don't want racing at Flamboro Downs etc.

The small tracks like Hanover, Clinton, Dresden will eventually fall as well, there just is not enough horses or interest in all honesty.

Look at the card tonight at Mohawk, so many short fields of 6-7 horses in lots of races & this is at the A track. This circumstance will not improve anytime soon, eventually you will see Mohawk scale back to 3 nights a week soon enough.

HIAWATHA HORSE PARK will stay open till the owner passes. They may not race for much but one of the CLASSIEST places to race ! Grandstands packed every night. No degenerate gamblers calling the races fixed. Spotless grandstand and great food and of course ICE COLD CANADIAN BEER! ALWAYS GREAT WEATHER. I got a dui about 8 years ago so i can't cross the border . REALLY nice place I miss it!
