Like I mentioned earlier the biggest threat to that 1/20 entry is one of them causing an infraction that warrants a DQ...then THEY ALL COME DOWN.

 ngc3

They do not all come down.

Only the horse causing the infraction.

They finished One Two Three the 3 entries, if the winner was dq'd then his 2nd entry part of the entry finishing second would be put up.

One gets 50% of the purse then 20% the 10% for third I think.  Burke got 80% of the $100k purse.

You say I know it all and you know nothing!  ;D

Wrong. All come down and are placed behind the offended horse.

maybe not purse money--but for wagering purposes I have seen them come down whether they caused any infraction or not--if the stablemate did--they all get DQd

Quoting Rules:

"If a two-horse entry finishes first and second but one is disqualified, your wager is settled based on the highest-placed, remaining horse from the entry
. In this case, since the entry still finished in the money, your bet is still a winner, but the disqualification will affect the final payout and the official order of finish.
How the disqualification affects your wager

The highest-placing horse from the entry is used. For betting purposes, a coupled entry (e.g., 1 and 1A) is treated as a single betting interest. If the horse that finished first is disqualified, the second-place finisher from the entry now counts as the entry's official finishing position.
The official order of finish is adjusted. The disqualification means the offending horse is placed behind the horse(s) it interfered with, or last, depending on the rules. Any other horses that finish behind the disqualified horse are moved up one position in the official order.
Payouts are based on the new official order. The official order of finish determines the pari-mutuel payouts. For example, if the entry's winning horse (1A) is disqualified and the entry's second-place horse (1) remains, payouts for the "win" position will be based on the horse that is elevated to first place. The entry itself will receive the payout for "place" (second).
Wagering is not impacted by post-race DQs. It is important to note that disqualifications that happen after the race has been declared "official" (such as a failed drug test) do not affect the initial pari-mutuel payouts. They only impact the distribution of the purse money to the owners.

Example scenario
Assume an official finish of:

Horse 1A (part of coupled entry 1/1A)
Horse 1 (part of coupled entry 1/1A)
    Horse 2
    Horse 3

If the stewards disqualify Horse 1A for interference:

Betting result: Your bet on the 1/1A entry is still a winner because Horse 1 remains in second place, which is "in the money".
Payout: The win pool is paid out to those who bet on Horse 2, as it is moved up to first. Your entry wager will be paid out for the place (second) position.
Official order: The new official order for wagering purposes would be Horse 2, Horse 1, Horse 3, etc., as Horse 1A is dropped from the official placement."

N.Y. Comp. Codes R. & Regs. Tit. 9 § 4117.11 - Coupled entry penalties

"(a) If two or more horses are coupled in the betting as an entry and one or more of them shall be disqualified for violation of the rules of racing, the balance of the entry shall also be disqualified if in the judgment of the judges such violation prevented any other horse or horses from finishing ahead of the other part of the entry. If said violation is without such effect upon the finish of the race, penalty therefor may be applied against the offender and the balance of the entry may go unpunished.
(b) This section shall not apply to horses coupled as a field in the betting, nor to a horse, part of an entry penalized for running, or breaking gait, if in the opinion of the judges such break does not aid any other horse in the entry to improve his position at the finish other than being advanced in the summary as a result of the penalty. In the case of a horse coupled as the field, only the offending horse shall be disqualified."

I can testify otherwise

the race at Pompano had a 1/1A entry who went off 1/9

the #1 was on the engine and won easily-however the 1A broke and interfered with a 80/1 shot, who was last

both were DQd for wagering purposes

I emailed the judges-they told me "that was the rule"

this was over 20 years ago-maybe they changed the rule

-but that didn't happen at Pompano that night

Different states, different rules and even down to different situations making that determination.

agree that seems to be the case

maybe it is harness vs tbred related also

looking forward-NYRA has changed their rule allowing most entries to be raced uncoupled starting Monday

I believe Ohio and Quebec are the only two places that will still have coupled entries

It happened in the Art Rooney final at Yonkers in 2003 I think. $275K race.
The 1 won the race and didn't do anything wrong but the 1A bothered the horse who ran second, so both halves of the entry were dq'ed.

I think it was No Pan Intended who was second and was placed first.

Very confusing but I agree with everyone that different states or provinces have different rules.
