SPA Day XXXII / Charles Town Stakes Special*, Friday, 8/22/25
« on: August 22, 2025, 02:20:12 AM »
Let me start by...I hope by the end of the day tomorrow, in this thread the total winnings are over 6 figures for us.  Amen!

The SPA has a lovely day of weather forecasted, sunny, no breeze, but high 70's to low 80's should be FAST and FIRM.  There I'm going with the two stakes races, the 3rd a sprint on the dirt and the 9th a 1 1/16 on the turf.

Charles Town that 6 furlong dirt oval wonder of the world, also should be Fast.  That card starts at 5pm and goes until 1125pm, likely around midnight or later for the 13 races scheduled. Many stakes starting in the 5th and going to race 13, however, I'm going with the 8th and 9th stakes and also both the 10th Oaks & 11th Classic which both are GII.

How can I leave out a bonus harness card at MST with these selected stakes, I'll be going with races 2, 3, 6-11.

My schedule as follows (below) Good Luck!  ;D:

SPA Race 3 (216pm) -
SPA Race 9 (541pm) -
MST Race 2 (708pm) -
MST Race 3 (731pm) -
CT Race 8 (832pm) -
MST Race 6 (840pm) -
MST Race 7 (903pm) -
CT Race 9 (905pm) -
MST Race 8 (926pm) -
CT Race 10 (944pm) -
MST Race 9 (949pm) -
MST Race 10 (1012pm) -
CT Race 11 (1025pm) -
MST Race 11 (1035pm) -

I love me some Charlestown, it is a fun track to play and the big boy jockeys.. The Ortiz brothers ,Castellano, and Saez must be flying in after the Spa card ends. Gaffalione there the whole card. Arnaldo Bocachica is my favorite regular jockey there. The race caller does a good job to. Not sure of his name. The only drawback.. the post drag is awful and tonight will be worse.

A year ago, for these races, I was cold as ice there.  Weird because it wasn't a track that I had a lot problems with before, just on stakes night.

It can be tough there, lots of heavy favorites. The key is to find the favorites that are beatable. Massive payouts when this happens. I haven't played there since I hit that pick 4 during the rain delay when I took my niece to the ballgame. Looking forward to it. I got the day off work. I didn't want to start a new job on a Friday after finishing a massive new deck yesterday... so I'll be firing it in there at multiple tracks. I kinda wish I was hungover, I tend to do better recently when I am ngc3

1st bet of the day.. I hesitated to single Flavian in leg one because of his failure to get the 2 home in last night's finale. I couldn't have used an extra 2 grand anyway  ngc3. I'm going to try and beat the 3 in race 3 and the 2 in race 5. Ellis Park coming soon once scratches are in.

Spa early Pick 5
7/All/All/4/All
$144 bucks.
Good luck to everyone today!!

Gafflione will not make race 1--jock now JD "brick hands" Acosta

Paul Espinosa is the track announcer and is excellent, great cadence in his calls

0 minutes till post usually lasts 8-9 minutes every race-agree that is absurd

Acosta is awful.  8 to 9 minutes is a conservative estimate

Acosta is awful.  8 to 9 minutes is a conservative estimate

they are the only track that uses a "minus pool" drag

if they see bridgejumpers involved -they increase the drag even more--trying to squeeze every dollar from their pockets hoping word will spread amongst that community

my one trip to Timonium back in 2004 is one I will never forget

like stepping in to a time portal and going back 100 years

and the Maryland fair food lived up to expectations

Fucking Saez, if you key, just take a peek at the jock's win %, this fucker is at 7%. I used to follow this dude, tried with everything, has or had the same jockey agent as Paco Lopez.
