Five horse field

No Journalism
No Baeza
Disappointing field for sure.. definitely no show wagering. Maybe place as well?

Sovereignty has to run down Magnitude.  Interesting how close Sovereignty will stick to him, they've been training him to stalk raters recently, but Magnitude puts up Secretariat type ridiculous fractions on his way to bottoming out fields and winning.

Sovereignty 1/5 over Magnitude 1-1.  One exacta pays 2.20 for a buck, the other 3.50.

Sad but the slow running SPA is humbling for everyone  ;D

those odds with Magnitude and exotics seem low--i have Magnitude around 5/2 and exacta paying about $3 and $6 the other way for a buck--but you easily may be correct

that much speed going 10 furlongs is asking a lot to finish 2nd after he gets pressured on the far turn-another horse could easily pick off Magnitude late

Baeza is heading to PA Derby for sure

Journalism will stay in California-possibly facing older in Pacific Classic or The Awesome Again at Santa Anita

Im guessing the Pacific Classic for Journalism at the end of this month and then the Breeders Cup is at Del-Mar this year as well.. end of October I believe. He will never leave Del-Mar again to race.

Not surprised Journalism doesn't enter the PA Derby, but would look good on his resume a "derby" win lol and I thought it was a viable option.  I'm sure the folks at PARX would customize a field just for him to attract his team there.

Horse of the year between these two will come down to the BC!  ;D

that is why I am surprised Journalism didn't try Sovreignty again before the BC

a BC win by Journalism would only make the score 2-1, but we know they(Eclipse Award voters) usually put too much emphasis on the BC

this is the most boring Travers I have ever seen

Its human nature to remember or emphasize what things we saw most recently.. the freshest thing in our memories. Agreed very disappointing field.

if Sovreignty wins The Travers--technically he should lock up 3yo and HOY titles even if he finishes dead last in the BC Classic

of course my opinion means nothing

Not in a 4-5 horse field with those two.

I 100% agree with ya about HOY.. not your opinion lol. You are one of the best posters on here by far. I'm not really sure about the odds to me the race is unbettable

the article mentioned 1994 when Holy Bull was all out to hold off Concern by a neck and three others in a five horse field

and yes-i recall Easy Goer winning at 1-5--as Sunday Silence stayed in California

a very famous Travers was in 1978 when Affirmed beat Alydar for a 4th straight time but was DQd for interference as he totally mugged Alydar-who was going to win the race
