Here is one you can't lookup anywhere.
Peter Haughton
16 years old
Driving at Troy PA. county fair.
Mother was there.
Dad not there.
Witch one of the many "Geen Wave" 2nd trainers was the groom that day for young Mr. Haughton?
Hint
He had a fruit for a nick name.

The only 2 old time horsemen I remember having a fruit nickname was Norman Fluet, and Andy Ray Miller, fruitcake.

Whamo trained and driven by Charlie Clark. Both Niatross and Whamo were undefeated going into the Woodrow
Wilson elimination. Niatross won with Denali 2nd, and Whamo 3rd.

Excellent tmbz1

Niatross holds an obscure record of being the horse who was barred from the win pool the most--i believe it was 7 or 8 times

they don't bar any win pools anymore

I saw Niatross live and in person at Liberty Bell and Brandywine as a teenager

I had cold exactas with Storm Damage to finish 2nd both times and both times Trenton Time completed the exacta

the good ol days

I was at Saratoga Raceway the day Niatross went over the hub rail. There was no betting on that race, but there
was a daily double offered with the previous race. I seem to recall that the winner of that previous race paid $12.00
or so, the double with Niatross was only paying $8.00. The winner Trenton Time would have been 2nd choice had
win betting been offered. The double with the $12.00 winner, and Trenton Time returned something like $190.00.

wow--great story

I have an Aunt who lives in Ballston Spa-she was the Personnel Director at the harness track for years and she was there that day-the crowd was in dis-belief

apparently Niatross was pretty sick and had never seen the whip before-amazing he escaped with only scrapes and scratches
