I've seriously thought lately, that given the inevitable downward spiral toward extinction, Harness Racing should lean into its white trashiness and shoot for a Hail Mary resurrection ala NASCAR. Concentrate on the uneducated, in rural locales, allow close access to the horses and drivers, and lean into driver "beefs" storylines as NASCAR does. The gambling aspect is all done online at this point, and those people don't physically come out anyway, so try to connect on a grass roots level with people of the same makeup and sensibility as the participants.
Maybe something catches, and hundreds of pickups with trump flags start lining the infield of harness tracks. You can have the best of both worlds - online handle from handicappers, and an in-person venue buzz from a potentially rabid white trash fan base.
