What a great question. A horse shipped in from Canada to race at the Meadowlands. He was for sale. They were asking $100k (I think). He was racing, every week. A few guys were standing around, this horse being for sale came up in the conversation, and one Hall of Fame driver said, "He doesn't know who he is by (the stallion), he's racing, just look at him as a racehorse and what he's doing. Look at the horse, he's racing, his pedigree means nothing." Another Hall of Fame driver/trainer, who was considering buying the horse said, "I don't know, he's by XXXXXXXXXXX (the name of the stallion) and for the most part they don't have that real heart, that toughness, it's a lot of money to pay for a XXXXXXXXXXX. I don't know, he's going to have to race against some tough horses, and be pretty tough to not just be competitive, but win. Tough to overcome that pedigree racing against those kind of horses." So, two Hall of Famers, apples and bowling balls, LOL.

I don't know. I haven't had one that turned out so bad that I would eliminate the stallion completely. If you did-----why? Was the horse a sulker? Couldn't stay sound and the stallion was known for it? Bad trainer? No heart? I'd have to really think about it. Great question. Thanks.

Dewy. His poor showing as a sire can in part be attributed to his management. I mean, he was lights out as a racehorse. A super handsome dude.
Lucky Chucky . He had a lot of prommiss and was given some very good mares. I am told he produced many frail boned animals.
In the age of EPO and other man made chemicals, it is difficult to trust anything.

Can we count his sons that won "The Little Brown Jug". or are those just county fair races?
You are 100% right about a broodmare sire.
Here is what I found odd.
His top ten money earners and top ten fastest were all  males, but yet it was the females that carried on the best genes.
Considering that Somebeachsomewher e has two crosses to Bret Hanover, I think Bret's influence will be around a long time.
