Drivers Selecting Their Horse In A Race ?
« on: October 06, 2023, 07:15:46 PM »
If two different trainers want a drive to drive their horse in the same race , how does the driver make his selection?
Goes he stay loyal to his regular trainer, or does he select the horse who he thinks will win the race?  Example, Burke and Nancy Tackner both want Gingras to dive their horse. What does Gingras do? Go with the best horse or is he loyal to certain trainers?  Do the trainers get angry if the driver does not drive for them?

Depends on circumstances. Lot of caveats in my thinking. Normally better chsnce yo win prevails. But, if trainer is big $ winner, or horse is young with better future prospec ts of $ (sire stakes),  or driver is committed to trainer owner (mcnair grant eg) exclusively, might not go to more likely winner.

I give considerable consideration to a top driver hopping off a horse that he would normally drive  to go to horse with longer ml odds. Also some drivers stink at gauging prospects, others are very good at weighing chances. Learn who those are and it helps.

I've seen drivers say that they have loyalty to certain trainers, whom they will choose to drive for irregardless. And others, who take the horse that they feel has the better shot at winning the race.
