announcer quirks
« on: February 22, 2023, 01:08:41 PM »
I watch Monti and Yonkers just about every night. Anyone get a little annoyed besides me at how many times Oil says "suddenly" or "no surprises here" and How many times the guy at Yonkers says "hes on the right line or hes on the left line" Just venting. Sure do miss Sam Mckee

hernan is a broken record, not unlike how bullet bob meyer was..  and he doesnt know his right from left, and states a horse is on the line when nearly every time it is not.  my favorite is 'hes gotta go now' when they are at the the 3/4 pole ... the last time a driver made a move at the 3/4 pole at yonkers was in 1988

So very accurate. I did notice a horse on a left line and he said they were on a right line. Guys not very good at all and Oil is really bad in my eyes.

I don’t have it in for Howard. Met him a few times when I was racing at Monti years ago, and always pleasant. But when a driver is 3 lengths in front and he says” Greg, you can put away the whip, you’re home free”, that is really asinine.

My favorite is when Jack Gallagher at Dover announces the move a driver is making before the driver makes the move.

Agree, Jack likes to drive them from the announcer's booth where he can see the entire field. Now only if the drivers could!

Howard Oil: YOU CAN PUT THE WHIP AWAY

He stole that line from Jack E Lee. Jack used to say that to Howard Parker.  11.wp

All announcers get some pet saying after time.  Some sort of a trademark thing id guess.  They must think we are blind.
Good announcers are a thing of the past. Can’t make a living calling races 2 or 3 nights a week.
There are some announcers at County fairs that are much better than the ones at the raceways.

Howard is horrible. I counted 24 suddenly  calls yesterday then i stopped. Mute. just like most tracks these days, mute. I miss Jack E Lee and some of the others.
