He is always running promotions at his furniture stores. The one for the Derby was if Essential Quality won all the furniture that was bought during that promotion was going to be free. He makes these large bets to off set the possible losses.

Dude owns Runhappy.  Ever see so many commercials and promotions for any other stallion?  I think he pours more money into TVG than anyone.  Doesn't make him smart or stupid just another rich old guy who likes to promote himself and his possessions.  There's more than a few here that would do the same if they had his bucks.

So it took 9 years to come close to their own "nightime" handle record. Big freakin deal. Their Monday cards are now their old Saturday night cards, and with virtually no competition, this should be a norm, not some cause for celebration.   I guess they had to wait until Pompano closed for this to happen.  Damn, not to long ago when Yonkers was going head to head against Monticello on Tuesday afternoons, Monticello was spanking them very good.  The point here; brutally boring racing lacking of any genuine appeal, unless of course you are an owner or horseman racing there, in which case it's the mecca of purses.

He was offering $100k last summer for anyone with a Runhappy 2yo to win a MSW at Saratoga, DelMar, or Kentucky Downs trying to increase interest in breeding to the horse. Didn't seem to work, had to drop stud fee from $25k last couple years to $10k this year.

He is a sprinter so why would anyone expect a large breeding to him? Not a classic pedigree and never should have had a 25k stud fee. Breeders were smart enough to take a pass. His first crop had 34 foals. By Super Saver who won 3 of 9 races one being the KD. As a stud had a handful of stake winners and now stands in Turkey...enough said. If one wanted to breed to a sprinter Speightstown had that market for over a decade.
