We?

That’s most likely a quote directly from the Meadows racetrack. And yes, they are thriving. Setting records is a good thing for the sport. Unfortunately, most of you naysayers can’t recognize a good thing when you see one.

Simple. If the industry is thriving then all the subsidies and state welfare can be pulled. Right?  tmbz1

doesn't the government subsidize the drug industry-legalized marijuana?

There were just 4 tracks racing today in the country cause of the heat.

Maybe welfare isn't needed if harness racing only races on days when everything else cancels

doesn't the government subsidize the drug industry-legalized marijuana?

Marijuana doesn't manufacture thousands of horses a year to be used to profit then sent down the slaughter pipeline. Harness Racing doesn't subsidize pharmaceutical companies? Even the illegal.ones!  ngc3

No.

Legally it's like any other drug for medicinal purposes, regulated.  Marijuana is not legal for recreational purposes federally, not decriminalized, just intentionally off the DEA radar for the minor league weight, large black market, cartels, they're still on the radar.

The gov has done psychedelic experiments for warfare, interrogation, mind and out of body experiences, those are search projects, some classified.

Because the sport is dead. The sports biggest owner Greg Luther knows it.
Why give money to a bunch of doping horsemen? They use up the horse and it ends up in a kill pen. It is animal abuse.
There are thousands of better ways to use that money.

I am a big racing fan. I'm also an animal lover. The slot money was to help the sport. It has led to a money grab. It was not intended to go to the sport's biggest cheats. Harness racing is chemical warfare. What goes on at Yonkers, PA, and elsewhere is pitiful.

ok so lets close harness racing ( i assume you folks also want t bred stopped as well)
and once we close racing what do you suggest the following folks do , vets, blacksmiths, shippers, grooms, equipment manufactures, farmers who grow hay etc ( oh i know they could go on welfare and the government can support them , oops that sounds familiar)
also i have no problem stopping what you call welfare funding ( incorrect)once the casinos who were allowed to enter the market via harness racing licenses are closed ,have any of you actually gone into the casinos, they are far worse for society than horse racing , there are degenerate  addictive gamblers in there who cannot afford to be in there having lives and families destroyed
also one final comment, i guess all of you who are concerned about the welfare of horses are vegetarians /vegans , to be clear i do not want any horse to be mistreated but unfortunately it happens after some horses have ben very well treated during the careers or later, but we also breed animals for the sole purpose of slaughter, i hope none of you consume any of them
society has far more serious issues than harness racing

Don't you get tired of spewing tired drivel old timer.

Find other equine skill related industries, get re-skilled, educated, adapt...when self-driving trucks become prevalent what happens to those drivers?

Don't cry about obsolescence unless you're a steaming turd when the action / in-action of all those becoming obsolete caused it.

They'll have to wait on the next welfare line for housing, health and money with their kids, unless they have a disability, and they'll wait behind a crackhead sh!tbird who gets welfare and F's for what she, they don't have.

The horses are so drugged up who'd eat them anyway if it was legal.  The manner in the way we give these animals care and food until they are slaughtered for food means something.  If horses had hands, ate meat, armed up, I'm all for them killing all your pals to eat.

They made a movie about that, with apes  ngc3

Ontario Racing (OR) announced on Thursday, July 9 that it is immediately contributing additional funding of more than $14 million to the Ontario Standardbred horse racing industry

The horse racing industry in Ontario annually injects more than $1.9 billion to the Ontario economy and provides approximately $330 million in provincial taxes. Horse racing drives economic activity in dozens of communities across the province, particularly in rural areas where economic opportunities may be limited.

Initially in Ontario it was more a partnership with the horsemen, the tracks and the government. Initially it was only slots that were available and in order to play the slots there wasn't a casino to go to, you went to the track to play them. In exchange for hosting the slots and giving up a portion of the gambling dollar that the slots would take the tracks and horsemen were compensated.
