Does anyone know what kind of payments owners have to make to the Meadowlands to be able to race there. I thought I read that racehorse owners and stallion owners are required to make some kind of payment to be eligible to race there . The guy’s a billionaire, and all he ever does is beg for money.

Give me a break, he was the savior of the Big M. How much money has he sunk into the place? He's not the downfall of harness racing in NJ, he's tried all the stupid promo's to get people there. Everybody was giving shit for most of the promo's. If he gets people there it ain't much of a show anymore, most of the year the program is a bunch of crap horses, driven by crap drivers. How you going to survive racing 2 nights a week racing crap. Nobody wants to bet on. No Casino on the ballot, I'm sure he has a plan to bail out. BIGGER QUESTION, WHAT HAPPENS IF HE STROKES OUT TOMORROW?

If Gural (or his heirs) exits his BigM lease early the state of NJ has to pay him (them) 110% of the out of pocket improvements he made. It's a contractual obligation. The NJSEA manages the property for NJ and leases it to Gural.
Otherwise it keeps running in its current form ngc3

I agree. There's little doubt that the casino at the Big M has always been his dream. I've been there many times. I can't imagine harness racing without that track.

Don't imagine it, it won't happen. We're getting screwed in every way shape and form. This is not the past, sadly. He'll get his casino, with the kind of money they'll be racing for they'll all likely be junkies too.

Jeff is a great guy who truly loves the sport. It amazes me to see some keyboard warriors trashing him because he wants a casino to support continued racing. Just because he is a wealthy guy does not mean he wants to lose money over year. Take him at his word. Love him or hate him, the Big M may not exist today if it wasn't for Jeff. He wants to continue racing at this track but also not lose money (aka get a Casino). I can't blame him. I don't see anyone else stepping up to purchase the track!

Honestly that's irrelevant. He has made it clear : 1) He Loves Harness Racing & 2) He loses Money operating the Meadowlands. We all know the landscape has changed and he needs a casino to continue running it without losing Money, I don't think there is anything wrong with what he wants, which is to continue racing there and operating a casino so he indeed does make Money. Whether he gets the casino or not, is an entirely different discussion, but if you love the sport and the BigM, you should support his efforts.

Everything else aside, if you are a fan or a bettor, even if you only go to the track occasionally, you would rather see a track that gets a casino with Gural than a casino company.

Who do you propose he sell it to? Do you see anybody that's interested in purchasing his White Elephant? He's stuck with it and him running or closing it. What do you think the state is going to take it back and run it? I don't think he's kidding about closing, or at least turn it into a solid B track, no stakes just the crap. It'll be interesting how long Vernon and Tioga can last.

He's no youngster but I gotta be thinking he's going to retire one day. I know many here don't like him. But I think when you measure his plus and minus contributions to harness racing, I think the "game" is better with him than without him.

Although I was mostly a Yonkers guy I spoke to Jeff recently and he has a very good outlook for our business. Of course I thanked him for his contributions to harness racing. We should all be grateful of a man like this.
