Yes she is with me all week. I think her first LBJ day was Million Dollar Cam in 2001. We have 8 seats. 4 are locked away for my wife and I, and my older brother and sister in law. The other 4 get split up amongst other family and friends throughout the week. Thank you for the kind words about my Dad. We still have 2 more days of our beach vacation to go as well.

I will be there, if my foot is better after dr on monday.  The jug has always been my favorite day of racing, been to many in person.

You're welcome. I love hearing that she enjoys it with you.
I don't always see couples enjoying the races together, maybe its just the tracks or Off Track locations i attend.
Enjoy the rest of your vacation, both of you.

Exactly, the state sire stakes are ruining the Grand Circuit.

Only 20 races  WTF!  Check out race 2.  3 horse race...but look at those horses!

Best advice for Delaware , and I've been there a time or two, is get out in front of the handicapping.
Especially if you are attending and socializing/partying, they will get you on the run with so many races
each day. Looks like it's gonna be nice and toasty. Get the paramedics ready. They'll be scraping some
old dudes off the deck.

I'll never go with roger Houston and settlemoir there. it reminds of the Syracuse mile. at least Wendy while be there did, I wonder if she rode at Syracuse, I know she was at Vernon?

Very sound advice. I always handicap most of the next days races the night before and then finish up the following morning. 20 races is alot to go through even for us diehards ;D. There will be lots of heat casualties young and old, men and women. Stay hydrated. I don't mind the heat. I've sat in that Grandstand with a winter coat and a tobaggan  on many times.

Just a bit of advice to all the bettors out there. Every race today at the LBJ is a trot.. There will be a shit ton of breaking going on. The banking of the track is what makes it so fast. TV does not do it justice how much banking there is, and alot of trotters struggle with it.. Try and find horses with alot of experience racing on a half. Furthermore, look for driver changes. Alot of these horses have been racing at the fairs with B drivers, then they come to Delaware and get a Scioto regular ie Miller or Page. Its a great betting angle. Good luck to everyone!!

Post by: simplify on September 15, 2025, 10:15:08 AM
good advice JT. I typically don't bet that "track" as the payouts are bad but perhaps with some favorites breaking it could be better. With the banked turns I assume the 1 post still a huge advantage there?

Actually you would think the 1 would have a huge advantage.. but it doesn't. In the program pages it lists Win, place and show percentage by post going back to 1992.
Here is the win percentage..

1 18.4%
2 17.0%
3 15.1%
4 16.1%
5 15.0%
6 8.8%
7 6.8%
8 5.6%
9 7.8%
Place and show percentages similar as well

Interesting. Bummer they eliminated the 3rd heat because with those two being in the same division, that would have been a real possibility. Also interesting that the other 2 good Burke horses, Swingtown and Rick Wink are in the OBC in race 4 which goes for $116,000. I am not much of a clock watcher, but that race could go faster then the jug ala Falcon Seelster, Nihalator in 1985.

Thanks Pap!! We had a few decent beach days but more bad then good. Unfortunately mother nature can be quite fickle. We still had a great time though.. it beats working. I always buy a program on site rather then looking on my phone.

Settlemoir is too much of a homer for anything or anyone from Ohio because that's where he's from. As an announcer your job is to be objective, he is anything but objective, he sucks, plus he's turning into another screamer.

Too many verbal crutches - says the same thing at the same time during every race.  Missed calling times - didn’t know the 2nd division went a half in 53 until he called the 3/4’s

Should have asked Ken Middleton to come down for two days

why isn't it broadcasted on ESPN? or any major channel for that matter?

burke and Aaron are the industries golden boys.   sell them. advertise. they don't because they can't. if they could they would.

Been there MANY MANY times and just judging by the different camera angles from grandstand to backside
to surrounding fences, I'd day even less than 30,000 there, though they will announce more that will include
fair goers.

espn? seriously. the interest nationally is next to nothing. Nobody would watch. And betting is pitiful as well...way too many favorites for real handicappers to bet into.
