Title: Jason Settlemoir on June wagering at The Meadowlands
Post by: stanetelman on June 20, 2024, 08:24:35 PM
"All of us at The Meadowlands love the big race cards,” said track Chief Operating Officer and General Manager Jason Settlemoir. “But I’d also like to talk about the fact that since June 1st, we haven't topped $3 million dollars in total handle on the last four racing cards.  It is very disappointing and Jeff has said he's not going to continue to subsidize the racing losses much longer."

so jason you thought you would do $3m on Saturday while mohawk had one of the biggest cards of the year
stop whining
you have to pick you spots, you have your nights coming on July 6 and then july 13 so worry about making them great and doing $4m

Too many Stakes type races and babies this time of year. Short fields and horrible betting races. Mega stable welfare program.

As long as they have the race track open and racing quit bitching. They close it, where ya gonna go Freehold, not a bunch of mile tracks out there. Every track whines, he has the biggest so he whines the loudest. Don't listen, if the place was betting 3mil, he'd complain it's not 4mil. Let it go, I am. it's not bad   listening to his rants, and knowing Jason's gotta listen to him rant about it constantly, makes my day. He's turned into a comic book character.

over half of that comes in after the bell by CAWs

that is why the handle is relatively higher

A frightening fact is that the leaders there believe the more amateur races, the better

They bet more on the amateur races than on the “BIG ELMINATIONS” across the river.

The overnight always get worse when all the tracks are open. Smaller field size & stale racing...equals less wagering.
I wonder how much of the handle is CAW'S? It can't be half. Would DRF or someone at the Meadowlands release an accurate figure?

It is not half.
If they made the info public, how would affect their big for funding each year year? We will never really know

 100%

Put them on at Freehold/Vernon, not the track where the old Meadowlands once sat.

`Saturday’s program lights the candle for what should be an incredible stakes season,” said track Chief Operating Officer and General Manager Jason Settlemoir. “And let's be honest June has not been a good month business wise for us.  Last night's handle ($2,537,626) was the seventh consecutive night we failed to reach $3 million dollars. This upcoming stakes season will be crucial for us in determining whether we can continue without additional support."

Do all of these amateur races that they run not harm the handle?
I can't imagine making a serious stand in a race with those drivers.
