Another State that will face decoupling, particularly if the trainers and drivers misbehave
-
interesting but not surprising
for every $1 of purse money in Ohio
15.2 cents comes from handle
84.8 cents comes from Slots
** I wonder what the ratio is in other states ?

Despite the swirling storm clouds, Renee Mancino, executive director of the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association, is optimistic.
“I’m positive that if we advertise, market and promote, we’ll bring the people in,” she said.
If you are so positive --- then why aren't you doing it ?? This is - one of the dumbest comments and only shows you why Ohio, who has 15% of the their purses sustained by customer support --- has nuckleheads like Renee in key positions of a failing business.

They need to form a committee and do a study first, than publish a paper and go up the chain of command to the top floor who will form another committee to study the situation.

The hand writing has been on the wall a long time, took awhile for them to get Pompano Park, but they won in the end. How many casinos would love to be rid of racing, ALL of them. Think it might be far over the edge to bring it back. The day of advertising harness racing is in past. They have been saying for years "advertise, market and promote" WTF have they been doing, whatever it is it hasn't worked yet. Harness racing will never be self sustaining like it is, Programs boring, too long, no energy, just like NASCAR. My kids and grandkids grew up around the horse business, they have no interest since I retired. They have better things to do than sit around for 3 or 4 hours and watch the same thing every 20 lol min. they remember me warming up horses, not jogging around once. No ENTERTAINMENT

Ohio should be thankful it's that high compared to other states!
What about New York? Look at all the tracks that do business there and look at the handles Buffalo, Batavia, Tioga, Vernon, Saratoga, Monticello, and Yonkers! Did I miss a harness track?
Plainridge Park isn't any better with handle and look at the money they go for there.
Not many if any good driving colonies too!

A new word that will be worked into many harness racing conversations in '24 re: tracks, casinos, states, drugs, cheaters, sports betting house monsters, etc..
TEETERING
...as in 'teetering on the brink'.
...as in 'teetering on the brink of disaster'.
-
Jai-Alai will probably outlast harness racing. Most of the players are Catholics and as everyone knows .....Catholics don't cheat!

Reviewing Casino contracts is a must nowadays! I would definitely check and see how many years are remaining on the contracts in my jurisdiction. It goes back to the old adage "You better look before you leap!

Doin the math, and granted it might not parallel exactly, but a 20k race now at 15% would be $3000..Was wondering what Mike Campbell's thoughts were, or can't he 'HANDLE' the truth? Nice additions by the way, Also Eligible.

The day when subsidies end will happen.

Wolf isn’t Governor any more, and he was the biggest threat to purse restructuring.

I am not sure why you bring up Mike Campbell thoughts in here. Personally I find him to bring absolutely nothing to Plop discussions except his pompous, arrogant comments with no regard to anyone but his pathetic self. His actions on Plop are indicative of lifetime losers who think he being nasty and dumb will get himself some nonexistent attention. As I am sure many Ploppers would agree, I would rather to get Fuguzzi back who had some interesting lifetime experiences and stayed respectful of those who were deserving.

Can I vote this for best post ever?? Anyone that goes right to name calling when presented with facts is either incompetent or 13

and when they conclude the study ... they'll all scratch their heads and exclaim, 'that's not the way we've done it'. The mentallity to expect 1959 is still the way to survive shows the poor brainstorming.

If you super squeeze the purses, horsemen will double and triple down on backstretch 'winning bets'...if u do that, shrinking fan base fades even more...and then, well, 'teetering'.

Cumberland KY is probably
.85 cents from handle
99.15 from welfare.

. The onion lives!! Fredo says I’m smart I’m not stupid as everybody says I’m smart and I want some respect

The biggest problem with this is the associations advertise and market rarely target the general public! Most campaigns are projected to people who are in the business or already go to the races! Harness Racing is hardly ever promoted to the mainstream media. I realize that the cost to do so is very expensive but the current method is only reaching the people who are already involved!
-
I have a hard time finding sympathy for the current people involved. Maybe the best thing would be to just close the show.
