Just glancing at Pocono today...and the Total Handle

on some races is Less than the Purse...

some races about even with the purse..

so the math shows it is costing the powers that be

$200K or more per day to run the card..

I am thinking the track takes in 20% per $ but only keeps

say 10% per $..

and then add Track Maintenance, Electric, Water,

Insurance, paddock help, employees etc etc

How long will the bean counters accept these losses

at the "Racinos"..

Not going to be forever...another year or 2 and these

suits are going to look for outs to get rid of the losses

on the Racing product..

The tracks have to be horseman owned or they will

be out of business...e.g. Pompano Park

as soon as decoupled...bye bye

do you not understand that purses are funded by a small percentage of slot machine revenue for all six Pennsylvania tracks?

or do you just like starting nonsensical threads from yesteryear that have been rehashed a million times already?

understood...wher e the purse $ comes from...

We know this.

that is not the question....read the thread...

HOW LONG will the casino interests keep forking

over their hard earned slot $$$  profits for the Buggy races

where they see No attendance and minimal online

wagering.

The huge corporations like MGM didnt get where they

are by charity....

The only interest they have is Casino....

Do u think they will open Harness tracks stand alone?

They are a total loser...and then some.

I am sure their Attorneys are working 24/7

figuring out longterm angles of dropping the harness

tracks from their Menu.

Not if....but when.

interest in most cases.

With a 5 day card the Casino interests are Losing

close to $1 Million per week per track....

funding $12K to 22K purses.

and if you think they will not Bail at the first possible

chance....well... .

what more can we say.

If the purses were $4000 or $5000 the tracks may last longer.

oh geez

it is the state of Pennsylvania that has legislature written for the purses funded by slots revenue-the casino companies have no say what is allocated for purses

stop pointing the finger at the casino companies like they are involved and properly address your concerns with a more appropriate title like "How long will the state of Pennsylvania .....blah blah blah"

its called decoupling and there are about 10,000 threads on that already

got it?

Just like Pompano Park....going along smoothly..

until dropped like a hot potato...real fast.

Things may be going well in Pa....for now...

MGM Lobbyists will be hard at work behind the scenes

You may see the Harness Tracks be taken over by a separate

company that is "owned" by MGM and the tracks will

be run on a business model.

If they show losses for a specific amount of time MGM

will request a new playing field with lower tax rate etc etc

You sound like you are a newborn with respect to how

large and powerful these Casino interests are..

They are multi Billion $ International companies

that pay the countries a fortune in taxes...

The States would not wish to lose this funding and MGM

in time will lobby to dump the tracks as it causing a drain

on their bottom line...which is true..

If the profits hit a snag..the tracks will be downsized..

not only in PA...but all the states including KY

The Casino interests call the shots....

They will pay tens of millions in Lobby fees to get what

they want...

A profit company like Jeff Gural cant go up against these

Goliaths.....but he is certainly trying.

Yes the purses are funded close to 90% by government handouts. In PA it has added up to BILLIONS. A large percentage of that money is going to owner in other states.

It should be put to a referendum for the voters to decide.

agree of course

the dope who started the thread seems to think that is a conscious decision by the casino corporations to fund the purses

but then again-he feels important starting threads that are years old news

I don't know if you're aware of this or not but the legislators in PA are so clueless when it comes to horse racing. Around 8 years ago they passed a bill and started charging the ADW's a 10% fee for taking bets from PA residents forcing the smaller ones to close the accounts of PA residents. The larger ADW's made some kind of deal and weren't affected.

Here's the best part, their reasoning for doing it was to increase on track attendance and handle which had no chance of happening.

of course-the juice trainers receive most of the welfare and the legislators have no idea
