CONFEDERATE's yearling are here in 2026!
« on: May 27, 2026, 11:41:42 PM »
At $20,000 a pop, he bred 140 mares in 2024 and 137 mares in 2025. They made over $5.5 million already without a single horse on the track yet!

So BJ may never leave Canada after all!

Set a 7/8 track size mile record, retire undefeated, makes sense.

Pots of gold at the end of his flawless, safe rainbow!

How did you come up with 5.5 million?

yup
thats the way new stallions work
same applied to tds and perfect sting
breeders and buyers want the shinny new toy/sire
when the 2 yr olds hit the track only then do people k now if they made the right decision
but as you say breeders have already been paid for first and second crops
its the third and fourth crop that don't  get determined until those first crop have raced

Are you serious? Multiply 277 mares bred by the $20,000 stud fee per breeding. See what you get.

Mares bred and live foals are two different numbers. Only get paid on live foals. Still doing alright.

Yes I am serious.
Stud fees are paid on life foals only. (Stand and suck)
Not all mares bred get in foal.
Not all mares carry to term.
Not all mares deliver a live foal.
Of the 140 mares bred in 2024 to foal in 2025, there has of today only been 104 registrations. There will most likely be a few late registrations, but not many.
Sometimes a top driver is given a free breeding(s).
Sometimes the trainer is given a free breeding(s).
Confederate is owned by "The Confederate Syndicate".
Each syndicate member is allowed so many breedings per share. He may use them on his own mares or make deals with them.
After breeding many mares, for many years, and at several farms, I have found that the advertised stud fee is just like the dealer sticker on a car. Only a starting point.

Imagine you are the majority share holder and/or syndicate manager of the lastest pacing wonder boy to go to stud.
You get a text from Ron Burke.
"I would like to breed 4 maybe 5 mares to your new stud. What kind of a discount can I get"?
You know his mares and money are good. You really want your first crop colts in his hands.
How much of a discount to you give him off from the advertised stud and board fees?
On 3, 4, or 5 mares?

The majority of Confederate's first crop of (live) foals were NOT paid stud fees. They were mares bred from share owners. If a share owner sells a season (and can't or doesn't "pool" it), he/she collects the money. Not the farm. Now, who got the money from the sale of the shares? Good luck figuring that out, LOL.
