But I get what you're saying about a big, long term investment and no potential payoff, and running in circles with cheap stuff...goes both ways.

The value of having a vet with a good focused eye...everyone knows about going to a higher % trainer.  Rarely you see a lesser trainer claim / buy off a better trainer and see better results...it happens occasionally.

But patience and execution, 2 words that are antonyms but both needed.

I want to be successful.

I'm not worried about opportunities, there is always another.

Doesn't mean you want to miss one, juts feel comfortable and think it out.

The value of partnerships sharing - the decisions, windfall against mitigating the bad decisions and failure, loses.

You seem to have a kind heart for the horses, SweetTrig, and as such, you're going to find it a bit tough in any fractional ownership group. There are a ton of people who want them to the races ASAP. Your vet friend is probably right that they shouldn't really race at 2 much. It happens, mine included, but it's case by case. If they're not ready, they don't go, and a lot of people don't have that patience.

As others who own have stated, it really changes your perspective if you've only been a gambler/fan.

I like trotters, and will freely admit they're maybe not the best "toe-dip" but I'll keep an eye on this thread for sure

For fun would be to hang with the horses outside of racing.  Also learn as much as I could about equine sciences.

I can help with administrative stuff.  Maybe like a corporate secretary.

I'd be listening and learning and going along with the expert advise of the partners and personnel otherwise for the rest, which is pretty much everything.

I'm not sure why we're not talking about t-breds too    I'm in!

IMO, if you want to partner, the sweet spot is 2-4 total partners who share a similar enough philosophy that, along with your trainer's guidance, you're going to be in (mostly) agreement.

As you divide that ownership percentage, the majority rules gets harder and more contentious. If you just want the racing experience (and potential success if you just go with the group), buy in.

If you are serious about it, you will want to limit partners to a finite number you want to work with.

You are right "on the money" with this comment. When I owned mine, I had two good solid partners who liked me always paid our bills on time. We shared the same view on where they raced and who we wanted to hire as a trainer. We agreed that we wanted a trainer with a small stable and who would allow us to stop by and see the horses and enjoy the experience. And although we lost money on the venture, we had a great time and met some great people in the "game".

Mikeee they tell me your training record it's horrible and you've never owned a horse. Please post the horses that you have owned along with the training record.
