MLK RACE
« on: January 19, 2026, 09:56:38 AM »
Can someone explain to me why there is a race containing all African American drivers in observance of MLK? What is the connection between MLK and Harness Racing? I am sure there is a legitimate reason but I have been dropped on my head too many times to figure out what it is.

The Mighty M was famous for those kind of promotions since the early 80's. The MLK pace for all black drivers. The Passover Pace for all Jewish drivers. The all Lady Drivers pace usually won by Bea Farber. The All Family pace, usually the whole Manzi family. To name a few.

Christopher Columbus Pace for Italian drivers, and maybe four leaf clover /shamrock pace for those of irish heritage?

I couldn't believe either when I heard it, muchless when I took my Klan hood off and saw it.  ngc3

Here's the race...

(I heard a crazy rumor, some nigger made over a billion dollars playing another white man's game, golf, and is now dating the ex-daughter in law and mother to 2 of President Trump's grandchildren.  Total bullshit, right?  ;D)

Wouldn't it make more sense to honor an African American that actually was part of Harness Racing. How about honoring Lew Williams.

I don't think you'd get push back from any us, makes sense, guy is a HOFer and deserving, and of course, black.  Had some troubles but no big whoop.

You own a track, in biz with the USTA you can do what you want for the most part, tell Gural.

I wonder what they should of renamed the Woodrow Wilson Pace  ngc3

Same connection as there is between MLK and Basketball.
MLK didn't drive horses and he didn't play professional basketball, but the connection is the majority of players in the NBA being black and the race requiring drivers to be black.
There are 9 scheduled bstkball games today to honor MLK and I guess there was one race doing the same.
Even hockey.   Columbus has a special game scheduled and I would imagine many teams will have some kind of ceremony prior to their games, incorporating black participation.

"I still have a dream, a dream deeply rooted in the American dream – one day this nation will rise up and live up to its creed, "We hold these truths to be self evident: that all men are created equal." I have a dream..."

—Martin Luther King Jr. (1963)

President Johnson signing - The Civil Rights Act of 1964

(No person in the United States shall, on the ground of race, color, or national origin, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.)

It's abundantly clear why some men are so great beyond their accomplishments, when we're surrounded by so many that are not, racist, hateful, small minded, even here, at plop.
