Mohawk Saturday 2 yr olds
« on: September 16, 2025, 12:17:17 PM »
On Saturday there are two big 2yr old stakes. Ten starters in each one.
Of those 20 starters....14 come from Somebeachsomewher e stallions. 7 in each.  Sweet Lou has two in each and Bulldog has one in each. The lone "other" is an All Bets Off filly.  A breakdown on sires:
Cattlewash 4
Captaintreacherou s 4
Sweet Lou 4
Bulldog Hanover 2
Perfect Sting 2
Papi Rob 1
Stay Hungry 1
Huntsville 1
All Bets Off 1

SBSW was one of the greatest sires of all times....but he sure is the greatest sire of sires.  Bulldog, who has a small crop out looks like he is going to be an elite sire as well.

In the Mohawk Million Captain Corey leads the way with 3 foals....I think he is going to be the next elite trotting sire. One would have though that Cams Card Shark line  would have been carried on through Bettors Delight, but it looks like it will be more through Captain Corey, whose grand dam is Cams Rocket, by Cams Card Shark.

Just a slight correction here:  11 are from the SBSW sire line.  4 Cattlewash   4 Captain   1 Papi Rob   1 Stay Hungry   1 Huntsville.  The Bulldog and Perfect Sting colts are the Western Hanover sire line.  Sweet Lou back to Abercrombie and ultimately the great Adios, and All Bets Off to Cam's Card Shark through Bettor's Delight.  Also Captain Corey's grand "sire" is Cam's Rocket by Cam's Card Shark.

That would make for a great debate. He is certainly one of the best, not sure about him being #1. Bettors Delight, Cam Fella, Meadow Skipper,  and Artsplace come to mind off the top of my head.

SBSW also died early and had less foals than all of the ones above. He definitely is the best sire of sires ever.

Depends on how far you'd like to go back. SBSW is definitely proving to be a dominant sire of sires, BUT
HAL DALE sired Adios and Dale Frost. Through Adios we get the Art's Place/Sweet Lou and Art Major sire line, etc. Through Dale Frost we get the entire Meadow Skipper sire line which includes everything Western Hanover and everything Cam's Card Shark/Bettor's Delight. Hal Dale's (sires) are responsible for approx. two thirds (66%) of the pacers racing today -- the rest belonging to the Volomite sire line extending to SBSW. Through Cam's Card Shark's son Cam's Rocket, Hal Dale is now showing up on the trotting side of the breed through sire Captain Corey. I could also make a strong case for Volomite being the greatest sire of sires, as his dominance appears on both the pacing and trotting side (Chapter Seven/Walner, etc. etc.) of the breed.
