CAW is driving away new fans.  The old-timers will stay around, but this late money odds shift sends a bad message that something fishy is going on to a sport that already has so many fans thinking it's not being run with honesty.

yes, the betting way after the race starts, certainly is being recognized now-i am receiving less resistance about the open window facts I have been talking about for the last 15 years

there are no new fans

just a few thousand of us old farts left who even follow the dying sport

NYRA's strategy is to have Andy Serling flat out tell you to stay out of the exacta and trifecta pools and bet the win pool.

Track employees telling you to your face that their product is corrupted. That's horse racing in 2025.

What stops 20 gamblers getting together and creating their own CAW syndicate?
Would they not have access to the needed software.
Does one of them have to have the ability to write their syndicate's software.

I'd guess the banks and investment firms have the same advantages in the stock market.

How do you level the playing field for individual gamblers and investors?

Cut the caws off from every pool at 3 mtp.

If you have the money to bet big and can create very sophisticated AI you could do it. The tracks own their own caws

from what I have heard--it costs $40k to get the software and it is $10k a month to allow you direct access to the pools

and then you must find a racetrack(s) that will allow you to play--and they usually have a very high minimum handle they require to even let you play

this was 5 years ago when I spoke to a 1/ST customer service representative

there is no level playing field-those days are long gone

This guy might be a bit of a nut but without people like him we have nothing,  This game can survive drug trainers but can not survive bad racing with low payoffs,

The CAWs had a very strong saratoga meet. Harness should be thankful the AI isnt quite that sharp at the meadowlands. Not yet anyway.

If he's "friggin clueless" in his reply, why don't you share why.
Or are you still hurting? Who hurt you?

I am all for anyone who is in a position of authority, notoriety, or whatever, advocating against CAW's and for a fair and equal playing field for wagering. I don't think Portnoy is someone who can really bring about change, nor does he have the respect and credibility to be a catalyst for change, but him talking about it is hopefully better than not. I hope it brings others to the efforts.

His positions and handling of labor relations, corporate culture, etc., makes him a bit of a heretic and many feel he is anti-labor. His actions with his company were very controversial, and illegal, but I don't know that he ever followed through with his threats, although he was warned by the NY State DOL and a NY Congresswoman; which is never a good thing, LOL. He was investigated by the NLRB and he reached an informal settlement with them. I guess his gambling got him into trouble many years ago, but I don't know if that helps the cause here, LOL.

I think his comments, thoughts, and actions related to women, rape, his racist comments, and sexual harassment, are deplorable, and least for me, that in and of itself invalidates any credibility he may have had. I don't know if the sexual harassment claims were ever concluded, but after everything he's said, his views, etc., where there's smoke there's fire. Not my kind of guy.
