Meadowlands Pace No Elims
« on: July 01, 2025, 07:04:53 PM »
Is it a sign of a diminishing mystique of the race or the unwillingness of connections of
lesser horses to contribute with minuscule chances or both?

If there’s five horses definitely better than yours you need to look for another race.

Three of the really good Burke horses are racing in the Ohio Sires Stakes this Saturday. Swingtown pp9 race 8, Sippinonsearoc pp9 race 12 and who I think is the best of the 3.. Rick Wink pp3 race 12. It'll be interesting to see which horse Chris Page chooses to drive in race 12. It's a loaded card at Scioto this coming Saturday.

The mystique, stature, or whatever you want to call it is still dictated by the owners and breeders. It' still a stallion-maker race. Maybe not this year, LOL. This time, I think it's partially a one off, but also I think another contributory factor is the horse population, competing races/tracks, etc. I am curious how much, if at all, the states coordinator and race office made phone calls. What I do think is pathetic is what they've allowed with the purse.

Prep race for those who need it:

CAPTAIN OPTIMISTIC
FALLOUT
JOEL AND THE JETS
KNOCKOUT ROUND
LOUPRINT
MADDEN OAKS
MANOLETE
PAPIS PISTOL
PAPI’S ROCKET
PRINCE HAL HANOVER

Good question, but none of his Ohio colts are actually eligible to the Meadowlands Pace.

Staking fees too high

Plus the staking at 2.  To make sure your even eligible at 3

Is another example of Jeffrey fvkin the owners

Adios, Little Brown Jug, Tattersall, Breeders Crown etc etc etc all have 2 year old payments. Gural actually offers a very reasonable 7.5k supplement for The Pace at 3.

To answer the original question posted by Bitter Truth, the entries may be down because some of these horses, including the Burke horses need to accumulate points for the sire stake finals. Some of these sire stakes finals go for hundreds of thousands of dollars. Also maybe Burke sees Louprint as his best 3 year old, as he should, and doesn't want his others i.e. Swingtown or Sippinonsearoc competing against Louprint whenever possible.  The lucrative sire stakes program, especially in Ohio, Kentucky and Pennsylvania in my opinion have pulled horses away from some major stakes races and the triple crown races.

to make the race more interesting.....

whoever leads at the 1/4 pole receives $10k

whoever leads at the half receives $15k

whoever leads at the 3/4 receives $25k

just take that $50k from the final purse

The duel eligibility in KY magnifies this effect even more.  Some horses can race in two sire stakes programs. Why knock heads with the Grand Circuit horses?

Good concept I would just give the leader at the 1/2 50k. Needs to be enough money to go for it.
