Handle Wars-Monticello vs Yonkers
« on: December 08, 2023, 12:12:37 AM »
Monticello vs Yonkers on Thursday. I can tell you that Monticello in 8 races handled 640K and doubled the 320K Yonkers handled in 11 races. How the fuck can Yonkers justify their purse structure when a D track like Monticello embarrasses them on a daily basis?

I understand the difference in VLT money but if post time makes a difference, then why doesn't Yonkers start racing in the daytime?

Monticello has on track stables.  How much does Yonkers have?

Do people like betting cheaper horses than better ones?

Ask MGM!  Hopefully they answer the question for all of us!

Apparently, bettors don't care about the class of horse, as long as the race is competitive.

Bettors want races where they get value for their money.  You might lose a few dollars on 1 race and catch another race where you get a bigger profit and ROI!

Bettors also need pools to get into so you don’t step on your own money!!

take that 90% percent is bet off track with a return of 3-5%   =  $14,400
take the other 10% with a return of lets say 20%   =  $6,400

Total take  $20,800 now chop in half for expenditures and taxes....

You get $10,400 in mutuel handle that goes into purse account.  ngc3 ngc3

I guess it's good to be a trainer or driver in the horse business, until the rules change and the money dries up..

Yonkers. 8 favorites, most $1.30 or below. Across the river where the “cheaper horses” were. 3 out of 10 races.  Eazy peazy.

100% correct.

There was a day when horses were part of the American life.  That is no longer the case.  As a result, going forward, few people will care about the horse or its class.  Those that will gamble simply want to feel like they got a fair shake.  The humans involved are FAR more important than the horse for most people that will wager in the next 20 years.  The first track that realizes this, and encourages a new participant that would be interesting to fans, will have a fighting chance at survival.  A 6th generation horse person simply is not enough.
