Because the average age of the posters on here is like 76.  But I'm a late 90s early 2000s guy myself.  Favorite horse was Sanabelle Island.

Sanabelle Island, Steve Warrington, i remember her.
I being an average plopper i guess has to go back to the 70s and Foxboro Raceway and
Rockingham. The night Romeo hanover raced at Rockinghsm you couldnt even find a
Seat on a bench on the apron it was so crowded.

Personally it's the 70s before Meadowlands opened.  Go to YR or RR at 5 PM with a stopwatch, time both warmups, look for washed out horses and ones that just look horrible to toss and the good looking ones that went good warm ups to bet.  Tons of dead money .. easy pickings. 

Meadowlands opens. Roosevelt eventually closes. Races at Yonkers start to suck. Everything is twice as far away and harder to see.  The start of it not being so easy.  Add simulcasting and later slots, dead money goes away ... Give me a time machine please.

The night Romeo hanover raced at Rockinghsm you couldnt even find a

When Romeo Hanover came to Sportsmans Park for The  3 year old American National he was a total run away. Little Geo Sholty's butt never touched the seat the whole mile. He won by many.

The Golden Days of Sportsman's Park Was  The Golden Era for me and for IL.Harness racing.

Late 60’s early to mid 70’s. I loved half mile racing back then. I loved being so close to the action. YR, MR and RR all had unique personalities and in their heydays were great. It took me a while to get used to mile races and the glitz of the new Meadowlands. I didn’t like not being able to follow the action except by watching on the big infield screen. But like everything else change takes over and I had to adapt.

60'S, 70'S, 80'S I was weened on the greats at Yonkers and Roosevelt. The younger fans who never experienced it have no idea. Before the internet and offtrack betting, picture 50,000 fans on a Saturday night! My favorite horse, because of name and performance, the great, OVERCALL.

Nothing beat the era than before the Meadowlands. In younger days, 60s and early 70s, friends and I were always going to Yonkers and Roosevelt. Big crowds, excitement etc. Then we would plan trips annually to visit Liberty Bell, Brandywine, Monticello doubleheaders, Green Mountain, Rockingham and Freehold. It was so much fun. Win or lose we had a great time.

70'S and 80's for nostalgia.
90's only up to early 90's for easy exactas at YR with Walter on top.
There were 2 teams of drivers then and if one team had the speed horse you could almost guarantee another team mate would paas that leader early and then the retake 1 2 to the wire.

Team one - Herve, Wing, Marohn, It's been a long time so I forget the other ones.
Team two - Case, Oulette, Schnittker, Ingraham, Morrill - at the time Morrill was staying at the Schnittker's house upstate. Warren Schnittker once said to me - Jimmy Morrill has no morals.

I enjoyed Liberty Bell too but in that area I thought Brandywine Raceway was a better experience. The place just felt much more homey to me. The racing was terrific and so were most of the live fans. Long live the great Herve at Brandywine.
