THERE WILL  BE A LOT OF GELDINGS!!!!!   I PERSONALLY FEEL THIS WAS A GREAT HORSE BUT BEING A STUD HURT HIM AS HE DID NOT MIND HIS BUSINESS.  A LESSER HORSE WOULD OF BEEN GELDED AND TRULY LASTED A LONG TIME AT A PEAK LEVEL.   HE WILL BE A GREAT SIRE!

CAPTAINTREACHEROU S TRULY WAS SIMILAR AND LOOK AT HIS FOALS!!

HOW ABOUT ADIOS?   HE TRULY WAS A TOUGH HORSE---AND DID NOT GIVE 100% BUT HIS GAIT WAS OBVIOUS TO AT LEAST DELVIN.

the best race mares usually aren't good broodmares

Peace Corps

Moni Maker

This is so true. So many disappointments. There has to be some flaw in the correlation to this formula of breeding the best to the best.

the breeding business is the great unknown
it is proven that a mares performance on the track has little to do with their ability to produce good/great horses
of course perfect sting would dispel that
but then many great racemares who threw nothing would support it
certainly a form of gambling

With the recent 3 or 4 stallion prospects from Cassie Coleman being flops, you would have to give that theory some strong consideration.

Name 1 good stallion Takter’s have produced? Father Patrick is ok but not special. All failures as top stallions.

American Ideal, Sportswriter and Betterthancheddar seem to be doing just fine.

of course their will always be questions when it comes to trainers and ped etc
and yes they can and will make a horse go  faster
but you cannot turn a poorly bred poorly conformed horse into a champion with these
that is to big of a stretch
and at the end of the day those enhancements if used do not really change the horses ability to be a good sire
it may change peoples perception of the horse and if they send a mare to him but that's all

Always exceptions.. a horse on peds could drop from 1:49 to 1:47 and make a lot more money and get a lot more quality mares but he is still a 49 horse.
While conformation is important to a point it is not as important as when all but a few races were on a 1/2 mile track.  Breeders do a hell of a job marketing their yearlings.  Lots of programs show the sale price of the horse.  Scary thing to look at when  a $25,000 yearling jerks the bridle of the bell ringers at the sales just 8 or 9 months before.

Miki was a monster on a big track but definitely had conformation issues. He was a knee knocker, 1/2 tracks were his kryptonite and every time he crossed the GWB, he laid down in the trailer and refused to get up. He reminds me of another of his ilk from back in the days of Hollywood Park named Adios Vic.

That is why I said recent. I would not say Betterthanchedder doing just fine. If you purchased one of his colts for last years 2 year old races, of his 69 foals, 2 made made a profit.
