I’m going to predict exactly what I predicted last year even though it didn’t happen. Yannick will totally screw up the race. Not just for him but others as well. He won it last year BUT CAME DAMN CLOSE in putting his wheel into another steed. If they took the hopples off of Highland Kismet Yannick would still be 0 for the Hambo. I am no Yannick fan. I know he fires quite well BUT for some reason I just think he is one dimensional and this time of year he has horrible horrible luck.

Agree on all counts - I will go to my grave thinking three things about last years Hambo

1) Karl doesn’t win if he doesn’t draw the rail.  Drawing the rail forced Yannick to not leave
2) Karl doesn’t win if it doesn’t rain - that coupled with #1 didn’t let Yannick leave
3) Karl doesn’t win if Bob McClure has half a brain.  If he sits outside of Karl for two beats more the cover catches up, Karl is plastered to the rail and never gets the 2nd over trip

Yannick will put the hammer down on Super Chapter, the faster he goes the faster Marland closes and Maximus Mearas and the crossbred (Nordic Catcher) will benefit

Years ago in the 80s there was a good trainer who said to breed a champion trotter and to a lesser exent a champion pacer you breed a trotting stallion to a good pacing mare and vice versa a pacing stallion to a trotting mare he said, gave the pacer more stamina. He said the pacer with trotting blood on the mama side, they would run all day and forget to stop.

In the 90's and early 2000's some of the top trotters there were atually by pacing sires.

In fact Eric Running in the 70's had a great trotter called Easton Light who won NZ's biggest trotting race 3 years in a row. He was by the same sire as my champ in the 80's and there was a mare named Petite Evander who won like 600 or 700,00 thousand in 4 different countries in USA and Europe as well. Anyway, he had a pacer name Ritch Hill who was a class 7 pacer (CO is maiden and C8, C9 raced with OC (Open) pacers. He couldn't win any more pacing races so he converted him to the trot, qualified him and in a wierd rule back then if you were a C7 pacer, you had to run against open trotters which were CO Maiden to C7 which was OC.  He had him beating his tablemate Easton Light at home and he won the Rowe Cup (2nd biggest in NZ) beating the best trotters off 2 qualifiers.

Quite a feat
